OC the amd phenom 965

After reading a ton of guides online about overclocking the good ol' 965 phenom x4 BE it has left me a little confused. I get the whole idea of adjusting your multiplier till your cpu gets unstable, and then adding more voltage to make it stable again. Test that, make sure it runs then keep the process going until you hit a thermal threshold of your CPU. The max volts i've seen people use is 1.5v to the cpu core. The confusing part is when people start throwing in adjusting the northbridge frequency as you get into higher and higher overclocks. I see them adjust this to get a cpu stable at 3.8ghz, while giving it a voltage bump.

Read this guys take on overclocking phenom 2s, and he seems knowledgable.

The whole question is, is adjusting the NB frequency and voltage nessacary to overclock past 3.7ghz??

I mean i saw tomshardware overclock the similar 955 BE with no northbridge adjustment.
