I have noticed that lately a ton of people are worried about voiding their CPUs limited warranty when modifying their processor’s clocks and voltages and I just thought I'd post this for those concerned:
"any Product which has been modified or operated outside of Intel’s publicly available specifications, including where clock frequencies or voltages have been altered, or where the original identification markings have been removed, altered or obliterated. Intel assumes no responsibility that the Product, including if used with altered clock frequencies or voltages, will be fit for any particular purpose and will not cause any damage or injury," (Intel)
My personal view on this is yeah, you will void your warranty, but at the same time how will Intel know? By modding clocks and voltages within your BIOS you are not modding the CPUs microcode itself. In other words, if the chip is put into a board at Intel's HQ then there is no way of them knowing you modified it unless you physically do something to the CPU itself (delidding) in which case not even I recommend as the gains are minimal.
You should not be throwing a voltage at a CPU that is insane enough for physical damage to occur nor should you daily OC be like 6ghz :).
Murphy's (not Moore) Law should be taken into account. What can happen will happen. Do not buy a shitty cooler and OC you CPU. Please. I recommend at the least a Hyper 212 Evo (which is fine for nearly everyone).
I recommend you spend at least a week checking your system for stability before overclocking.
