OC i5 Or i7

i am building a new pc for gaming and i am wandering if it would be better to get an i7 and use it at stock clocks with intels cooler and buy a new cooler later and oc or buy an i5 and get a nzxt havik 140 and oc it?

I dont think the performance scales that way. For the most part though games are going to be more dependent on the graphics card. So i would choose the second option but look around there are other options in than the havik. Look at this dicsussion from reddit. http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/16oixz/is_the_hyper_212_evo_still_the_king/

the i5 I would say because most games cant use 8 threads the i7 has

If you're just gaming, certainly stick with the i5 and save money to use on a better graphics card which will do worlds of wonders in performance difference. But, going away from an i7 or i5, think about going with the amd side of things. Get the FX 8350 and a good 990fx board, which actually has a chipset capable of way more usb3.0 and sata6 ports, which, in an age of incredible transfer speeds with our new storage solution, SSDs, is very important. Plus, you save even more money and the thing, as stated by Logan himself, is actually BETTER at almost everything than the i5 and i7.

But, I own a 3570k and love it to death, just kinda wish the 8350 came out sooner.

But don't get the i7 if you're just gaming. Save the money for a better graphics card. A stock clocked i5 rarely meets its match playing games.

i will be spending about the same amount of money if i buy an i5 and aftermarket cooler or an i7 i want to know which one is better my graphics is fine for games coming out this year

Yeah, I'd recommend getting the hyper 212 evo instead. WWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY better bang for your buck, and really, oc your processor isn't going to get you better frames. I promise you, first-hand. Get a better graphics card or save for later or something.

Get the 3570k, no game today can make that little beast bottleneck a GPU and probably wont for a long time to come.
