so i need some help overcloking my msi gtx geforce 660ti in afterbuner this is my first time over cloking so i could use some help to find a stable oc
change clock, change memory, play intensive game
rinse and repeat upping the voltage occasionally
There isn't really anything to it
Scraps very much summed it up. Increase the GPU and VRAM frequencies at small increments, run something intensive for a bout, then repeat (increase voltage whenever your card starts acting up)
I would say, though, that my preference for a stability test is to run Heaven DX11 benchmark for a while. For initial stability, just run it one or twice on settings that max your card at its current settings. Then, once you found something you can't go beyond, card is very unstable or you can't rise voltage anymore, run the benchmark overnight. Some people prefer a 24h run to be absolutely safe.
Of course, I don't need to remind you that you need to monitor your temperatures and that you'd want to keep them below 80C if you can (look up the card's documentation and find out what temperatures it's rated for. Most cards I know of can handle temps up to low/mid 90s C but you want to make sure that your card can take it)
EDIT: Oh one more thing I forogt to mention, since I don't know what heat sink you're using and how your case is configured. You need to make sure that you are not putting a lot of heat into the case. If your CPU is air-cooled and the card blows air from and into the case then CPU, and other components, might experience an increase in temperatures. If you have a dual monitor setup, you might want to run whatever stress tests on one and diagnostics on the second. So, what I'm saying here is that it might be a good idea to monitor the temperatures of the CPU and other components as you're overclocking your card.
One word of warning when overvolting: Be sure when you may up the volt. Don't up the volt if it's not necessary as it could reduce the life of components on the video card quicker, although higher voltage could increase the chance of a stable OC.
well if i increase my core clock by more than 10 Heaven DX11 will crash (and every other game i tested). am i doing something wrong?
EDIT: im am using a cooler master hyper evo for my cpu cooler
Try upping the voltage and going for more than 10, you should be able to get more and if you do that way then you are just unlucky and got a weak chip.
Edit: Oh also make sure you aren't messing with the 3 voltage sliders if you don't have a power edition cards, then your messing with things you can't actually change on the refrence card (though the settings should be greyed out)
