Hi guys, just wondering what the minimum power supply I could use for, as the title says, an EVGA GeForce GTX 680 2GB Superclocked, and the 3570k overclocked on an ASUS P8Z77-M PRO Motherboard , I was looking at the Corsair CX-600 Modular 80+ Bronze Power Supply
600 is a good amount but you could probably go a little lower if you had to
okay, but it's not too little? that's good, I think i'll stick with that PSU
Switch that 680 to a 7970, and get a Seasonic G 550W.
depends what your doing with the 680, if your not going to be doing certain things, pick the 7970, although I have an overclocked 670 that beats the 7970 is some cases .-.
Didn't ask for an opinion about the card guys, I've heard all the arguments out there. I didn't say I was purchasing this, I just asked about the power required, so thank you to those who answered the question.
While you can go lower on the PSU I would encourage you not to for a couple of reasons.
#1 PSU's are one of the few actual parts that you can "future proof" you can buy a nice one now and use it in your next two or three builds. (In cases where you want to continue using it a higher power allows for more options for the future even an SLI build)
#2 If you look at the efficiencies of PSU's at different draw percentages you'll see that a PSU is most effective in the mid range from 50% up to around 80% you want to be drawing in that range as much as possible. That will keep down your temps allow the PSU to last longer and save you a few pennies off your energy bill.
When it comes down to it the PSU really isn't the place to cut cost.
EDIT: AMD fanboys be fanboying >.>
Yea, I don't wanna skimp too much, but at the same time I want a good price, so I'm obviously not going to get a 1200W platinum, i think the corsair 600W bronze is a good middleground between value and quality
No! Don't get a Corsair Bronze PSU; they are crap. The CX series is one of the worst popular PSUs out there. If you switch to a 7970, you have room in the budget for a good PSU, like a 650W Corsair X or Platinum, or even a Corsair HX650. The high-end Corsair PSUs are great, but the CX is one the worst ones out there.
