NZXT Hue+ Advanced PC Lighting and Cam Software Review | Tek Syndicate

RGB is so polarizing!

I'm trying to have a bit of fun with RGB but I'm finding it works better for office lighting than for case lighting haha. Never the less I had a bit of fun playing with the Hue+ and I revisited the NZXT CAM software, which does a lot for you in terms of GPU overclock controls, notification about the system status and other system parameters.

It could be useful for overall system monitoring, fan monitoring.

So basically i can use the CAM software fo basic monitoring purposes and get rid of AIDA64, Afterburner AND fraps?
I am impressed...

Sorry but I can't help but thinking...

NZXT Hue+

I'll see what happens with CAM + my Sentry LX on my red card build.

Thanks for another great video @wendell !

Personally, I don't care one way or the other for RGB lighting. I know this was about LED strips, but what I hate about RGB is that in a lot of "GAMING" peripherals if you don't want RED you pretty much gotta shell out $50-$80 more for the RGB version of the same damn keyboard.

I don't care about the RGB very much. If I'm using my PC for work related tasks I don't want a light-show to distract me and if I'm gaming I want complete darkness around me. I do need some lighting inside the case from time to time. But just the regular white light to see how much dust has accumulated inside and things like that. But this whole idea of showcasing your PC is just something that I never cared for. I'm sorry, but to me that's just as juvenile as what those car freaks do with their racing cars. Pointless. No matter how hard they try to advertise it as something for PC enthusiasts I'm just not falling for it.

This is hype, cheers @wendell

Phillips had an interesting priece of tech called Ambix about 5ish years ago. It could sync with your pc to make ambient room lighting match what was going on in a game or movie. Was really neat shame it didn't catch on. Would have helped immersion.

There are some hacks for Phillips Hue RGB light bulbs to do the same thing.Just wish there was still a properly supported solution that did the same thing.

RGB peripherals really don't do anything besides cost more so I see little use for them.

Still does not read the AMD CPU thermals properly...

I've been wanting a temperature notification for so long, but neither MSI Afterburner or AMD Wattman has it so this software is a must.

Asked a friend of mine to install it...
He loved it. It was reading his AMD CPU wrong as well...

I don't know what have they fixed, but it ain't working properly...
The sad thing is, everything else is amazing. Looks better than AIDA, streamlined and organized well, accurate except the CPU temp... And that's a shame...

I don't spend much time thinking about LED lighting for my case. Although I do have a lot of interest in using SMD and COB for general purpose lighting. Projects like this spark my imagination a bit so I watch them.

I really like this NZXT CAM, but there's a deal breaking bug for me. When it's running the GOG version of the Witcher 3 freezes right after start. This makes me sad. Hope they fix it soon!

@Wendell, the mentioned LED-project with individually addressable RGB LEDs, is that happening? Is latency low enough to make it usable?

It works with some games, fucks up others...
EDF - nope. As soon as i turn the OSD on - EDF freezes...
Skyrim - works just fine...
Limbo don't want to turn the OSD on...

Leave me alone with all of this RGB crap!
Give me static lighting or none at all! I do not want my machine to look like a trash-film UFO.
Does anyone else remember the time when components had character to them, where you had to match colors before buying? I do and it was great!
Better put that RGB cost into something more usefull or shave the cost of completly.

Software side: Overlays and "game sensing" software is allways russian roulet with a stick magazine for me.

I fully agree...
A couple years ago i was writing a series of articles about color coordination and building visually pleasing systems, etc, for a local website, and yes, indeed, taking the time to search for that specific shade of green...
I like the Sapphire approach to RGB. It's just a logo, not the entire card, and you can turn it off. I appreciate that, since my GPU have yellow logo light and blue thermal indicator light. If i had RGB i could have made it all white.
But THIS:

This is getting ridiculous. I don't hate the idea of RGB, i hate the execution.

RGB on stuff that lives on the desk? OK. Then I can set my color and make it fancy and shit. That's fine.
RGB on stuff in my case? The black box that is standing on the floor? I'm not paying for that.
