Nvme running at 20 MB/s on a x399M Taichi + 1920x

I am having trouble with this x399m board. The nvme in question, a PM961, is running 30x slower than it used to on an intel board. The BIOS is 3.80 and was reset multiple times to try solve this.
Some times windows 10 restarts by itself, but not a full restart, the screen shows that it’s trying to reboot on the SATA that’s connected, ignoring the m.2 which contains Windows 10.0.19045 Build 19045. I even downloaded the AMD specific drivers in the hope that it’s one of those things but that didn’t change the situation. I was thinking of pulling the CPU out, in case the pcie pins are improperly connected but I’d like to avoid that I’d have to get a new AMD screwdriver so there might be diagnosing that can be done before.

After quite a bit of searching I cannot find any reason for that. Maybe one of you has encountered this problem or knows how to diagnose it?

I was just reminded recently to check if the drive is encrypted and if it is, check if you are using the software kind of encryption or the hardware kind:

  • Hardware is faster
  • Software has about 30% performance penalty which sounds about right(?) or in line with yiur experience.

This drive usually outputs 1GB/s, that’s far cry from 30% and I just check, it’s not encrypted. No, this seems to be a x399 hardware setting issue because another device won’t initialize with proper driver.
I should add that Samsung Magician detects this drive’s connection as gen 3x4 so this doesn’t seem to be a fitting problem.
