When talking write IOPS, yes. It only improves writes. That’s why the 1.6TB models all have higher write IOPS in their stats.
From what I’ve gathered on information, they’re 2TB NAND and depending on the SKU, there is a factory default setting for Over-provisioning depending on “read-intensive” aka 1.92/3.84/7.68 or “mixed-use” 1.6/3.2/6.4, while all start at 2/4/8 TB of NAND. For the mixed-use SKUs, factory setting is 20% of the total capacity, 4% for read-intensive models. You can manually tune this to more OP, but not less than defaults.
That’s why 3DWPD drives all have insane write endurance and very high write IOPS in comparison. You pay for that with capacity.
And with different namespaces you can have different level of OP for each namespace. So a 400GB namespace with 50% OP is some beefy ass write- and endurance optimized 200GB capacity namespace.
