Nvidia, the thieving buggers. (Ansel Post-FX allegedly stolen from modders)

Just found this article, which has given me something else to add to the list of reasons why i hate Nvidia. (copy pasta'd the article, with source at the bottom) Btw, sorry if this is deemed the wrong section for this post.

Marty McFly modding, a popular modder in the ENB modding community, has alleged that Nvidia has stolen a lot of their code for use in their Ansel in-game photography tool.

While the modder is flattered that Nvidia would make use of their code, it is wrong for Nvidia to have done so without any credit or payment. The modder has stated that if he had stolen Nvidia code that "their legal army would crush down on us immediately", the code Nvidia has used in Ansel is protected by a license agreement, though at this time it is unknown if the team behind this code is willing to take action against Nvidia.

Marty McFly Modding has contacted Nvidia regarding this issue, though at this time it is unknown how Nvidia will react.

At this time we do not know if Marty McFly modding is considering legal action against Nvidia, though if Nvidia is using their licensed code they at a minimum owe the modding group an apology and some form of payment for their work.

EDIT:

Apparently the modder in question has "sorted" the issue out with Nvidia. It still doesn't sit well with me tbh. Regardless of them not selling Ansel, it's a feature which will convince some consumers to go for their products to gain access to it. And doing it with stolen work is an utter dick move.

Wow... just wow... Nvidia continues to surprise me with their evil plots. And I thought that inflated prices, nerfed performance, lies about vram, and a whole ton of proprietary bs that we have to donate our firstborn for was hitting the limit of how much I could hate Nvidia's practices... I was wrong.

Can we now sue the living shit out of Nvidia?

Nvidia can do whatever the hell they want because people don't know the value of boycotting. They've done far worse and no one gave a shit.

You just read the title and skip the content of the article?

I skimmed while talking to someone on skype, now that I properly read through I see my comments were misinformed, my bad :(

Yeah this is straight scum.

The fact that any of you are surprised by this amazes me.

Update and conclusion on the Ansel thing: I talked with some guys from Nvidia and especially the lead developer of Ansel, it's all sorted out. It was a result of some testing, basically leftover code; the next Ansel update will have some code removed and me credited, so it's all fine now. I have seen that someone posted this on reddit, probably in an attempt to start a shitstorm or something, don't do that. It's not a big thing really and Ansel is no commercial product so case closed then =)

Updated the OP, with more info.

Good to see that everything was sorted out in the end.

Who cares, the modders themselves dont even care, stop getting upset just because you want to.

I'm surprised that the modders decided to let this slide so easily, but then again, when you're up against the 800lb gorilla that is Nvidia and you have little to no legal funding of your own, chasing a legal battle would do infinitely more damage to you than if you had just let Nvidia get away with it anyway. Nice that they managed to get Nvidia's attention and come to a compromise.

There's no way that this was just an "oversight", though. Nvidia knows they stole the code, they've done it before and they'll do it again. They just happened to get caught this time.

I made a point somewhat relevant to this feature a while back in another thread, I said that the post fx in ansel can be done already in DX injectors like Reshade 2.0 and SweetFX. Looks like I wasn't further from the truth. Most of Marty McFly's codes can be found in Reshade 2.0.
