I am putting out a challenge to those of you out there that feel you can take it on. I want to see a midrange budget computer that can run games at an acceptable framerate while streaming to a NVIDIA SHIELD (Remember the resoultiuon is going to be at 720p).
Remember to keep in mind the base requirements to run the SHIELD on.
GPU: GeForce GTX 650 or higher desktop GPU (Notebook GPUs are not supported at this time)
CPU: Intel Core i3-2100 3.1GHz or AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8GHz or higher
System Memory: 4GB or higher
OS: Windows 8 or Windows 7
Software: GeForce Experience application and latest GeForce drivers
Here is a build I planned out for my friend, which he will be building soon. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1qy8P I would go with the i3 3220 if you want to have any CPU upgrade ability with the same motherboard, and definently an i3 3220 if you want to go mITX, as no AM3/AM3+ Motherbaords have support for that. I, personally would go with the i3 3220, and a mid-range mITX motherboard, with a GTX 650 Ti Boost or a GTX 760, with the GTX 650 Ti being the best BUDGET choice. I would say no more than 8GB of RAM, and no less than 4GB, just get some decent RAM at about 1600MHz, you don't need faster RAM so much because of your dedicated GPU. Get Windows 8 so you can have the little extra performance boost, and I would say go with this case instead of the BitFenix Prodigy http://pcpartpicker.com/part/lian-li-case-pctu200b The Lian-Li PC-TU200 is big enough to hold a GTX 650 Ti Boost, not sure about a GTX 760 though, and the case can fit everything else, and even full size ATX cases. Here is the link to an article about what it can fit inside it http://www.anandtech.com/show/5006/lian-li-pctu200-on-the-road-with-lian-li
Why would you build a budget machine for a premium gizmo that you'd only waste more money after wasting a lot of money on an overkill machine that is capable of running this thing decently. You want a console? Buy a console, much cheaper.
What if he doesn't want to pay for the insane console game prices and he wants to use the PC to game on regularly and use in general as well as use for Nvidia Shield, I find this very probable and I was thinking about doing an HTPC for Nvidia Shield in the near future.
Nvidia made Nvida Shield, as a successful company, or any business, why would you support other people's products? (AMD Cards) What if all PS3 games worked on Xbox 360s? Would that help Microsoft make money off of the games that they sell?
or better yet what sony allowed the ps3 to work with all tvs and not just sony's televisions?
Hardly applicable analogies aside I see two major reasons they arent supporting amd cards
1. Current amd cards and older nvidia dont have the hardware necessary to stream with the shield.
2. Extra gpu sales are seen as a higher priority then having a much larger market for the shield.
If it is the latter then Id say they are either raging egotists or they expect the shield to be a niche item that never sees serious success as its own gaming platform. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing.
That is a little different, imagine if they also made all of their Blu-Ray players and whatnot to only work with Sony Televisions? Their company would collapse because their products couldn't be easily integrated into consumer's living rooms. Their is a big difference between game compatibility with consoles and whole console compatibility with displays. Also, imagine this, you buy a phone on contract from ATT, you pay to end the contract, you switch to Verizon, you can't use that same phone because it is locked to the carrier ATT, so with the Nvidia Shield you can't just use it with AMD/ATI GPUs. S, are you also saying that the carriers ATT and Verizon, or all carriers for this matter, are 'raging egotists?'
I don't see any reason not to take the minimal system requirements for this. Even APUs like A10-5800k and A10-6800k can play games at 720p with reasonable settings and framerates.
I swear it's almost like some people can't even read. "I don't see any reason not to take the minimal system requirements for this." in my post. The comp is just displaying to a 720p moniter which an apu can even do. Have fun feeling dumb now. Jackass.
Awesome, backpadeling there pfannyyy. I would give you credit if I hadn't already gave my build suggestion in the same post you wanted to remark on. The one you probably still didn't read. So... An I3 with 4 gbs of ram and a 650 isn't a fairly already budget build? You know when i mentioned the "i'd take the minimal specs". The ones posted in original message.
And considering hardware much lower than what is recommend by nvidia does decent cough apu cough.
I get it though. You wanted to make a smart comment then when you got called out on it you were like well, I'll say he didn't suggest one that did pc gaming and Nvidia shield. I do have to give you props though. You took the stuff in the minimum suggested spec by Nvidia and put it into pc part picker. That was light years ahead of me just commenting and saying,
"I don't see any reason not to take the minimal system requirements for this."
In case you forgot here is that low cpu, 4 gb ram, and 650 you put into pc part picker.
