Nvidia or AMD

I am wondering if I shoudl buy an Nvidia card or an AMD one (gtx680 or 7970)
I mean the 7970 is clearly a better value but some of my friends who work as computer technicians told me not to buy an AMD because they have problems with the driver.

I would like to hear your opinions.

Thanks

7970 or Gtx 680 are both amazing if you are tight on money go with a 7970.

The drivers for the 7970 are actually excellent right now. AMD's drivers usually are a bit lack luster, but they've been pretty excellent lately. If you do any video editing or anything that would take advantage of CUDA, then Nvidia is going to be the better option though.

Tbh I would go AMD especially if price is a concern. AMD drivers are pretty solid these days, the times have changed.

Yeah, I would probably go with the 7970 just because it has more VRAM, and I game way more often than I edit videos. Not to mention that you can get them for about the same price as a GTX 670. Plus I'm an overclocker, so I'd easily surpass the little bit of an edge that a GTX 680 has over a 7970 anyway.

Although, if I had an unlimited budget, I would probably go with a 4GB GTX 680 and water cool it.

Like the other people said, drivers have become less of an issue lately. I have a 7870 in my machine and i have had no driver problems. For just gaming it is really a toss up, sometimes amd wins in some games and sometimes nvidia wins, i have noticed that amd cards can be cheaper than nvidia. If you are doing productivity look for hardware acceleration compatibility (openCL or CUDA). If there is an application that you need thats only compatible with one, id go with the one that is compatible.

7970, also amd seems to work a bit better  for multi screens which anybody who has high end gpu more then likely wants as its pretty awsome

They are so close, figure out what games you are going to play the most. Find benchmarks of those games using these cards. That should help. I have a Saphire Vapor-x 7970 ghz edition, overclocked to 1175 mhz......I can tell you it runs fairly cool, and also runs everything....
