In the ever shifting GPU market it has often been a year to year tug of war between two titans (no pun intended) AMD and Nvidia. However, in recent years it seemed that each manufacturer had slotted itself rather firmly into a certain portion of the graphics market. Nvidia targeted the higher end gaming crowd with its bulletproof specs and supposedly superior drivers while AMD was perfectly content to target the budget gamer and a niche market of hardcore fans. Now with the rise of cryptocurrency AMD's cards have seen a massive price hike due to high demand what does this mean for the graphics card market in coming years and for us gamers when making new builds? I'm curious to find out how much of a factor others think this will be...
Cryptocurrency is going to die off like every other pyramid scheme out there. AMD will probably take back the budget category in six months. There will be a slight panic as used AMD cards flood the market, which might be why so many cards have been backordered. I'm just hoping both companies stay competitive.
the companies are always going to be competitive when it comes to Gaming performance, but Crypto-Currency going away? maybe, but for now it isn't going anywhere, there are a lot of companies accepting crypto-currency. people building gaming PC's are going go look to Nvidia for price to performance for gaming PC's cause the AMD Prices are absurd with this crypto-currency thing. AMD is Benefiting and Hurting from this. People are buying AMD cards by the truckloads but, Gamers are going to be turned off and jump to the green team for price to performance.
I can't imagine when that alleged R9-290x Dual GPU comes out. a 7990 used to be 600 dollars before this crypto-currency took off now if you look around on some sites that still sell them they are almost $1300 to $1400 oh lawd have mercy.
Dual R9 290x only work if AMD can pull some fucking wizard shit. It runs way to hot and with way to much power as a single core card. The heat and power you'd need to control would be crazy.
the prices differs from country to country i think. the mining craze devastated AMD pricing all across north america, but here in Asia and Europe (i believe) the pricing remains the same. an R9 290x still costs around $550 here in Indonesia and other countries in southeast asia.
This is true, its depending on where you live, in the Netherlands Belgium, Germany for example, AMD cards are still alot cheaper, then the direct Nvidia oponnent.
