Yeah, sounds way too good to be true. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. I haven't seen any proof yet.
I'm sure if it is real then Nvidia will fix it quicker then the "dedicated Phsyx cards" I used to hear about.
"Dedicated PhysX cards" were real. I own 2 of them. They were made by Ageia, a company which nVidia quickly bought out so they could incorporate PhysX into CUDA for proprietary reasons. With a lot of driver fuckery you can actually still make those little cards work, but FluidMark scores them at about 120ish points, which is about the same as a GT 240.
PCPer has G-Sync working on a laptop that does not have a G-Sync module.

Nice article by Pcper about eDP and Gsync.
http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphics-Cards/Mobile-G-Sync-Confirmed-and-Tested-Leaked-Alpha-Driver
Seems Nvidias extra hardware module will be pretty unnecessary when monitor makers implement Adaptive Sync scalers. Laptops with eDP seems to work already, of course. You don't get it below 30 FPS, but I don't think it's worth a hundred bucks for that. I don't want to play below 30 FPS, who wants that?
Guarantee that even if nVidia decides to ditch the GSync module they will still charge for it...
wow i thought AMD was going to come out with their free sync on laptops first since they dint have any of the stuff that nvidia was using for g-sync.anyone alse feels like nvidia are assholes for this now? telling us it cant be done with out their module then boom it works just like freesync
It still won't be possible without hardware in the monitor. Laptops have eDP and that's a bit different, I don't think Nvidia planned to have gsync-modules in laptops really. Space is a big concern.
If adaptive sync is implemented en masse by monitor makers, then I don't think NV will push gsync modules. The adaptive sync scaler can pretty much do the same as gsync, so the gsync module for ~50 bucks more will be a hard sell I think.
Gamenabs claims that the gsync module is just DRM are unproven and false. He discovered that gsync functions on a laptop with that leaked driver, sure but other than that he seems more than a bit off.
I've said it since day one, buying into g-sync is absolutely stupid. Why would I ever buy a monitor (a part of my system that usually lasts me 5+ years) that locks away one of its major features as soon as I switch to a GPU from the competitor? It's fucking stupid, and the fact that Nvidia is not interested in adaptive-sync just shows their ignorance. They reject open and free standards even though they would be better foreverybody. We could have adaptive sync monitors that work wih AMD and Nvidia GPUs in a few months, but that won't be possible due to Nvidias ignorance and their attitude towards anything that's not an Nvidia-exclusive feature (i.e. proprietary bs).
I loved my 770, and I loved all my Nvidia GPUs before that, but holy fuck has it become unbearable to even consider buying their shit lately. Usually I'd not recommend getting a freesync monitor. Because just like G-sync it'll lock you into keeping AMD GPUs if you want to keep that feature (even though this time it's Nvidias fault that this is the case and it could be fixed with a firmware update). But I'm actually considering going freesync for my next monitor. Why? Because I doubt that I could stand running Nvidia in the next few years.
I have the fear that I'll come across as a fanboy or that I truly am one at this point, but at the same time I'm simply responding to Nvidia trying to shove shit in my face. No thanks Nvidia, if you keep up that attitude and those practices I'll not even consider buying your products, out of principle.
thats no fanboyism. you have just lost faith in a company you liked. i personally wish one of the ARM chip Manufacturers would jump into the GPU game. imagine a Ti or qualcom graphics card?
The article was posted on Reddit on /r/hardware and for some reason was deleted like 16 hours later. It's weird since usually stuff starts leaking from there to other more popular subs. I wonder why did they delete it since there is a tag specifically for articles like that.
I don't know man this is old, people have not being paying attention to this issue in particular.
A G-Sync module is not needed in a laptop as the display is directly connected to the GPU. That's why AMD chose a laptop for there first free sync demo.
im starting to hate nvidia they make great cards but damn it looks like they care more about the bottom line then the gamer community.AMD spent more time finding away to make VRR for free and so anyone can use it while nvidia charged us a couple hundread dollars.Im pretty sure Nvidia will still not take advantage of free sync even though they can do it ,just too make a bigger profit.Im switching to the red team next gen just because i see AMD as a company that cares about the gamers spending time and money for free sync and mantle just so we can player better without paying a huge sum of money.
Linus Torvalds has a message for Nvidia due to their shit for Linux...

I've hated Nvidia ever since they refused to honor any of the warranty repairs on the defective hardware they where selling in the 8000/9000/GT1/2 series era.
It says its G Sync enabled but unless you have the module it reverts to v sync. Its BS look into it more and you will find out. Also the site is down fyi. Also there is no way to tell from videos if its actually working or not you have to be there to tell. 99% sure on this its just a menu hack to show gsync options on your control panel and nothing more.
