The GTX 745 has been out for a while now. It's an OEM card made specifically for Dell, but I've been able to get them directly through Nvidia. It has a clock of 1033MHz and a memory clock of 900MHz. It's onboard memory is 4GB of DDR3. (Yes, that's right.. Holy shit, not the best). However, despite it's age and mediocre spec sheet, it continues to be a well performing card at a now very low price. A 50W TDP is also quite nice. Considering this isn't a top tier card, I'll start with not top tier games. (My system has an Intel Core i5 4400, 16GB of DDR3 RAM @2600MHz, a 1TB Seagate SSHD, and a GTX 745) Minecraft is generally a CPU run game until you throw a texture pack into the mix. At a render distance of 12 with all graphics on fancy and the Sphax 128x128 texture pack, I get an average of 245FPS, a max of 467FPS, and a minimum of 133FPS. Once again, this is Minecraft we're talking about... GTA V at default graphics at 1080 yields a 76FPS average, a max of 108FPS, and a minimum of 63FPS. Okay, not bad. Keep in mind, this card was bought for $130... Sooo yeah. Next up, Crysis. Hahahah nope. Fuck you. It won't. Next up, Forza Motorsport 6: Apex. All graphics and details all maxed out. The game locks at 30FPS max by the way. I got an average of 30FPS, a max of 30FPS, and a minimum of 29.99FPS. So, it's good. My conclusion is that for modern games at default settings at 1080p, it performs well enough for a casual gaming experience at a damn good price. Be warned, the 745 has almost no useful documentation so support is very sparse. I'd test more games but I don't have much more... Essentially what I'm trying to say is that it's essentially a 740 that performs like a 750 if you buy at the OEM price.
Do you have the low profile version?
Rather interesting GPU honestly.
Any gpu with DDR3 vram just won't cut it in today's games.
Yeah I do. It's honestly awesome. @Giulianno_D no, it wouldn't be a max out everything and be buttery smooth situation. But for casual gaming an people who don't really care about pretention, it's good enough.
Low end, and odd GPUs like this can be surprisingly good to OC.
Have you tried overclocking your card at all?
Yeah, I pushed it up to around 1300MHz but the fan gets really loud on this card unfortunately.
@Fouquin can you give us some good insight on the gta 745.. I know its rather unique in its class despite its slow memory interface
I have one coming in a pre-built I just ordered with an i7 6700 and 16gb of ddr4 ram, I'll try out some games as well
Think of it as a GT 940, because basically that's what it is.
I have a gtx 645 from an alienware x51. And yeah, even it does pretty well. I don't see why people need the newest and fastest GPU. I play most of my games on a pentium, tbh.
unless you can get the GT 745 for $50 or less it's not worth it. I agree you don't always need the most powerful gpu. but if your going to spend $100+ on a gpu it should at-least have hdmi 2.0.
To you it isn't. That's fine. HDMI 2.0 doesn't make the game.
