i'm running an xfx 680i w/ a q6600 cpu, i currently have a evga 9800 gt superclock. question is, is it worth it to upgrade to 2 9800 gtx+ for SLI on this motherboard or just get another 9800 gt to run in SLI?
That depends on your monitor resolution. oh and welcome to RTW.
id go with the first option as it will be cheaper and good enough, and even if i wanted more performance id still probably not go with 2 9800gtx+
I would say you get another 9800 GT if your on a budget, It's not worth buying 2 whole new cards. You can also buy a GTX280, it would be somewhere around the price range of 2 9800 GTX+ cards, around $300.
got a 22 inch LCD at 1680 X 1050. also i'm playing crysis, HL2, TF2, CSS if that helps
at 1680x1050 9800 GTs in SLI should do fine, depending if the game you play scales well in SLI. Using a single card is better though, you can spend som extra money and buy a GTX 260 Core 216 and use your 9800 for physx.
since, you have the money for 9800 GTX +, sell the 9800 GT get a 285 or 295
so it is worth it to go for the 200 series on a 680i?
yah dude definitely go with a gtx 285
umm whats your whole setup.
then do you want to go cheaply or spend some cash.
If he's able to buy 2 9800GTX+ cards he can probably buy a GTX 280. So go with that. You can keep your 9800 and use it for physics or sell it.
xfx 680i, q6600, zalman cooler, 2GB crucial ballistix ram, shitty thermaltake case ( looking to upgrade to a cosmos s) evga 9800gt superclock, 750 PS, running vista 32bit OS. also i'm looking to build a new system in 6 months. so i wasn't looking to go nuts on this system.

get the GTX 285 or 260 C216, u can probably reuse for ur new build
mehh if you are rebuilding in 6 months just go as cheep as you can as new cards could well be out by then. id just get a second 8800gt or sell the first for what ever you can then get like a 4870 for 150 minus what you sold the 8800gt for.
cool thanks for the info guys, if any other ideas come up please let me know.
If I were you, I would get any 200 series card. I had two 9800GTX+ in Sli before and I bought one GTX 260 c216. GTX 260 runs smoother than 9800GTX+ in sli. You should be fine with GTX 260 c216 because your monitor res is 1680x1050.
sell both cards and get a 9800 gx2 or any dual gpu card
