Not been on on Intel for a long time. Some subtle differences to AM4 VS LGA 1700

So my last Intel chip was a 2700K.

List of hardware configs per CPU.

2700K. 16GB DDR3 2133 CL11. GTX 480, RX 570, R9 Fury.

Ryzen 2600X. 16GB DDR4 3000 CL15. RX 5700 XT.

Upgrade path to 5600X. RTX 3070.

Upgrade path to 5800X3D. B550 ASrock Extreme 4. 32GB 3733mhz CL17. 7900 XT.

Sold the AM4 system as it was overkill for my usage.

Bought 14600K.
B760 DS3H AX DDR4
32GB DDR4 4000mhz CL18 tuned for far lower tertiary timings.
RX 6800 16GB.
Made back 650 bucks from this downgrade.

So let’s talk about latency in Windows 11 24H2 LTSC.

Much lower on the Intel machine.
FPS in games are very consistent, some games saw a pretty large gain only due to the X3D chip having no effect.

Better 1% lows in nearly all games, lower average FPS in CS2, smoother overall.
I feel like I have a better experience here than with my maxed out AM4 platform.

Lower power consumption also since the CPU rarely hit’s 100%.

Even if the slower GPU to many would suggest a worse experience.

Interesting. I have always had issues with memory stability on AM4, at least on my systems/hardware. Only have a B350 and had a X370. Recently built two AM5 systems and the difference in performance was surprising. I expected a difference but not that big of a difference. I have also not had any memory issues on either system.

Your new intel system is great for the budget. I would say you are noticing the things that kept Intel dominate in gaming and great in productivity for years. In theory the 14600k would have more power available per core vs an 8 core.
