What would be a good laptop to bring to uni for gaming, i'm happy to play games on low settings.
Whats your price range?
£600-£800
Could you build a really small pc using like the LIAN LI PC-TU200B Black
Possibly, the reason i can't bring the desktop is in case it gets stole, lian li build would be costly and i couldn't begin to think on getting it stole! I'll sort something might just stick to playing dota2 on my current laptop which has intel hd graphics family.
Personally, I would just build a mITX system. The likelihood that anything gets stolen is slim. Just ensure that you lock your room whenever you leave it. Insure your hardware, just to be safe. I think Endsleigh have some good student packages, here in the UK.
Might build one when I'm up there, cheers for the suggestions guys
What stops people stealing a laptop? the chances of a pc getting stolen are the same really unless you have your laptop on you all the time.
If it is about it getting stolen, then I would get the largest and heaviest pc possible. Something like a laptop or m-itx case would be easy enough to walk off with.
Well apparently the area has a reputation, personally i too think the chances are slim if it gets stole. I'll be bringing my laptop to class, and bringing it to my own home at the weekends (uni is only an hour from my own house). Looks like a powerful laptop is the most favo(u)rable solution but i still prefer desktops :( My course is software and electronic engineering if that effects anything...
Every university has a reputation for theft. Some hide crime rates better than others.
In my experience, people only have items stolen if they are left in a really stupid place. e.g taking a laptop to a party.
Keeping anything locked in your room, with the window shut, you won't have problems. By all means get a laptop if it is easier. For your kind of course, they will supply suitable systems, unless it is stated otherwise.
If you already have a laptop to take to classes etc then I'd probably go down the m-itx route and stick it in one of the Lian Li cases or the EVGA Hadron then just hide the case away somewhere.
Every uni area has high crime rates as the criminals know that the houses will be full of 4-5+ peoples tech and will be empty for most of the day during classes. If you've hidden away the case, keyboard and mouse if someone has a quick look in your room it will just look like you have a monitor/tv so your room will be more likely to be ignored compared to the guy down the hall who has a PS3/Xbox, PC etc. on show.
