Im new to this whole metal scene so dont shank me.
So anyone got any really old school themed viking(ish) metal they can recommend, its too difficult to fish through the mainstream crap that comes up in youtube searches and find anything good.

Do you like folk sounding metal? The problem with a term called "viking metal" is that musically, it doesn't really exist as a genre. If you just want music that talks about vikings, then you can listen to Amon Amarth, Ensiferum, or Bathory. They talk about norse stuff, but they all sound completely different, and there isn't really a way you can make your music sound "viking".
the best band that i would say to listen to if your new would be Tyr, they are more heavy metal sounding and if you listen to the album " By the Light of the Northern Star"
you will get a lot of viking lyrics out of that.other than that amon amarth is a good bet, theres a lot of Black Metal that has viking lyrics, also Folk Metal is a good bet.
