how can i easily find out if the new motherboard and apu i want to get will fit in my case properly, i plan on getting an a10 trinity and whicheever the best fm2 socket motherboard, the case i want to put them in is this http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/30/gateways-fx530-series-performance-desktops/ it has room for 2 externals so i could put my current one in it and keep all my stuff. my current system is a lenovo a8 3850 quad core, if i had to i would just put the new parts in that case but it doesnt have as many bays. also is usb 3.0 just depend on the mobo wor the case to, i am trying to learn all this on my own but its tough, can and should i just upgrade with the current case or shouldnt i upgrading and putting stuff in the bigger case. or can i even do any of thi. i do know i want to stay with apu's there very cost effective for my purpose, thanks in advance for any advice.
If you would use the enter and shift key a little more it would help to understand what you are asking for.
Find out what format the motherboard is, ATX, E-ATX, Mini-ITX, then check what will fit in the case, if it says that it will fit an ATX board, you can use a ATX board. USB 3.0 is on the motherboard, but if you want a Front IO with USB 3.0 (The motherboard only determins the back IO) You need to find a case that supports it. (some old motherboards don't have USB 3 for the front or the back, but most new ones do)
On the last part i didn't quite understand what you were asking about, but if you are talking about keeping your Lenovo case or upgrading to a new one, i would recommend buying a new case, and buy a larger one then you need. A case can last many builds, so buying a large case is a good idea. If you're on a budget you could stick with your Lenovo.
And lastly, a question to you. Are you going to buy a premade FX530 series PC?
I am sorry about my typing skills, i tend to get a little overzealous and rush it. I have the lenovo, but i also bout an fx530s for like 50 bucks. just for additional parts i might be able to salvage. The fx case is fairly large looks like it has 2 external drives, and to or 3 internals. also it has 2 usb in front and 4 in back. and some io (i dont know what these are) in the front also. i was wondering if it would be good to put the new motherboard and apu in the fx series case, and put my hard drive from my lenovo in it with the new hardware. Basically i am wanting to get an a10 trinity and am not sure about the case situation, the fx series case seems like it would be good but may be to old. and the lenovo may be all i need if it has room for a ssd drive(what i want when i go to the a10). i am so new to all of this the thought of building my own is scary but i want to learn it and get it for the best possible price a link showing the fx case is in the first post, and if its not to much to ask what is in the fx530s that can be salvaged, hard drive? fans? power supply? any feed back is appreciated.
heres a link for the fx i bought for 50 dollars http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/gateway-fx530s/4507-3118_7-32702819.html and i am trying to figure out if the case would be good for replaceing the motherboard and apu to the a10 trinity, basicaly is what i am trying to figure out and maybe if the cooling system already in it and power supply will work.
