I just recently purchased a buttload of parts to build my first pc. while unboxing i realized that i bought a gigabyte radeon r9 270x not realizing that my build is based on intel. my question is will this graphics card work with an Intel core i3 3220? i know its probably a dumb question, but i just want some clarification.
yes, it will. :)
thanks alot. is radeon more amd based or does it not matter with graphics cards.
it is made by amd but will work with intel or amd processors with ease.
I'm going to try not to sound too condescending or sardonic, but graphics cards are separate from CPU's and simply rely on something that can send and interpret their bus signals. Given that both manufacturers of CPUs have to make processors with the same capacity to run components and a generally universal operating system, things like the brand of the CPU makes absolutely no difference to the compatibility of components like graphics cards, RAM (yes, even Patriot Intel Extreme RAM), Networking cards, etc. The only thing that matters is the motherboard chosen, because the socket and chipset are designed specifically for one series of processors from that specific manufacturer.
That clarifies things for me. Thank you and it did not sound condescending.
Oh, good. Yeah, GPU developers (AMD and nVidia) contract out the actual production of their cards to companies like Gigabyte, MSI, Asus, etc. So the actual brand of the card holds little relevance to the general functionality of the device. Many people will recommend brand-matching between the motherboard and the GPU. It isn't necessary, although if you are buying an Asus ROG motherboard, you should attempt to match it to one of their Matrix line of GPUs, as they will feature BIOS level voltage control, or at least they used to.
Thanks again. You have given me some solid advice on how brands and manufactures work.
