Non-reponsive touchpad on linux

I have a Lenovo L460 running Ubuntu gnome 16. All the hardware was running fine but then I plugged in an external mouse and now the computer's touchpad is not working even when the mouse is removed. Non of the system peripheral setting even show a touchpad so I cannot turn it back on.

I have a system restore to when it was working but this has not worked either.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

This might be really stupid. Sometimes with certain hardware when you plug in a mouse it will just turn the touchpad. If there is an on/off switch then hit that switch.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for it? on my Asus laptop function-F9 switches the touchpad on & off.

Yeah that should be it somce its built into the keyboard that way. Otherwise look in mouae settings.
