I could see a possible MITM attack on updates. Making sure the client is directly connected to the server stops this. Who knows though. Could be to save your company network from a mild DoS because a few people are using up all the upload from a non symmetrical line. Its pretty popular to have “business class” internet that is essentially home level down/up speeds for business cost.
