This did not hit me as a surprise or anything (I did my research and I knew what I would and would not be getting with my Gigabyte R9 280x) but it doesnt make sense to me why AMD would include TrueAudio on their APU's and lower GPUs like the R9 260x but totally skip the 280x. Being an audiophile and hearing the way Logan's been talking about TrueAudio really makes me feel like I'm gonna be missing out.
Can any R9 290 owners comment on their experiences with TrueAudio and if it's really something worth upgrading to a 290 for? Also if anyone could make sense of AMD's selective upgrades that'd be great too. Thanks!
it doesn't have true audio because it is a rebrand of the 7970 which is old whilst the R9 290 is the newest chip - Hawaii . Which also there are no crossfire fingers on the 290 and 290X as it is done through the PCIE
One of my peeves is when someone uses "dafuq" shorthand for WTF, it just sounds stupid. Had to express that.
Now, most of AMD's R-series GPUs are just re-badged versions of the HD 7000 series, which were all GCN 1.0. The exception to that was the 7790, which is based on Bonnair, which is GCN 1.1. That was also the only 7000 series wtih True Audio AFAIK. The only new GPU's AMD actually released we Hawaii and maybe those entry level ones (because the former entry levels were generations old). The rest are still the same old GCN 1.0. I'm guessing True Audio is a hardware feature.
