So I recently added a second 970 to my set up. After I did that I did not have sound in my speakers. I went to sound in windows and it says my speakers are not plugged in. Even though they are via 3.5mm in the back. I google and people says to download the Realtek audio driver which I didn't have. Downloaded it and still same thing but I get a bassy buzz in my speakers sometimes. So I've tried lots of driver things and disabling and nothing works. Really pissing me off. I think what happened is that the GPU took over the HDMI audio and made it default. Would it maybe all work if I switched over to HDMI instead of using Displayport? Which brings on my second question. Does HDMI support 2650x1440p at 60-70hrz?
I'm not sure why your audio isn't working, but I can answer the hdmi question. It does not support 60hz at 1440p in the 1.4 iteration. The 2.0 iteration does but previous generations don't/
If it is using the usb or the monitor speakers then it is not going to put sound out the the 3.5 jack. Now it saying that there is nothing plugged into them is another problem.
Do you have any other 3.5mm headset or IEM's that you can just use to test?
are the speakers plugged into the back of the PC or the monitors?
I have had issues in the past with realtek and using their drivers. I had to just let windows handle the sound. I personally would uninstall the realtek drivers and the video drivers restart the pc. and then reinstall the nvidia drivers. This might fix the issue it might not.
This is definitely an odd issue. I buddy did have a simmilar issue where his speakers just stop producing sound and he didn't mess with it at all and then they just started working again and have been since, we never did figure out why.
