No input devices working on Ubuntu Gnome live usb

My keyboard and mouse do not work when trying to install Ubuntu Gnome LTS and 15.04. The lights on both keyboard and mouse flicker for a bit then stop. The keyboard and mouse work in the GRUB menu and in windows.

I cannot gain access to the terminals through ctrl+alt+f1 and I can't edit the files in the etc folder which some people find hard to grasp.

My motherboard is the Asus p8z77-i deluxe with the latest bios installed. My USB bios options are left as default because I believe this must be the problem but I am unsure of what to change.

I used universal USB installer to create my boot image and downloaded the official files through the torrent link.

I can get 15.04 to work on virtualbox but the virtual machine fails to boot after installing the latest nvidia drivers though the xorg edgers ppa.

Please can someone help me resolve this since this and the nvidia drivers are huge problems holding me back from using Linux.

Is this happening in the live install or after? (They sometimes use different kernels and the Live disc uses a cut down kernel)

What mouse and keyboard? (Check for compatibility)

What USB ports are they plugged into? (Some Mobos have different USB controllers on-board i.e.: Realtech vs. Intel. And to Check if you are using USB 3 or 2 for the inputs)

The NVIDIA drivers will not work in Virtualbox since the VM dosen't have access to the GPU and is using the generic Virtualbox display adapter.

This is when I use the try ubuntu before installing and install ubuntu options, so it happens during the live install. The cursor is missing and the lights flicker.

I have only my keyboard, mouse and live usb plugged into working USB 2 ports on the back of my motherboard. Not sure whether intel or realtek.

The virtualbox thing makes sense.

What brand of mouse/kb?

Also try unplugging and replugging in the the devices after the live installer finishes booting?

Turn off fastboot in UEFI?

Turn off secure boot in windows. Or deletre the key in your UEFI

I experience that regulary with my asus motherboard (z87-pro) I haven't found a pernanent solution
either .It does that with various ubuntu distros it seems as if the usb interrupts binds or locks.

My working solution for now is to power off my power supply wait a few seconds and power on.
Works everytime for me but you might not be as lucky ,try it .

Turn off USB 3.0 Boost in the UEFI too

Have the USB device installed on the mack not front header.

Will do, should I do anything with AHCI hand off or legacy support since I remember doing something with it when I used to quad boot.

Only go to Legacy if nothing else works because Ubuntu should work with UEFI

USB Charger+ turn that off too

I can't find any of these options in my uefi

I don't have an Asus board so I don't don't know were to find it but I was looking at the feature sheet for the board and they look like potential problems.

May of just solved it, I unplugged all devices and waited for the live USB to boot, then put in my mouse and that seems to work.

What settings do I need to change in Ubuntu to get them working on boot, I remember some power management in /etc.

Most likely it will work once you install the full OS because your Kernel will be more up to date and complete.

Keyboard killed it when typing in swap space size

Did the light go out?

it may be that charging crap interfering with kernel usb power consumption.

Yeah all the lights went out, I will have a look for the charging thing. My USB config in uefi only has USB ehci controller, legacy USB support, xhci mode and ehci hand off. As media battery charging support is disabled. I will try old dell USB keyboard tomorrow since I don't have ps2 connectors.

it may be in the chipset or extras section

Well the live USB works fine with old keyboard, Razer keyboard is just a load of arse.

After the install the keyboard may work

Nope even after getting my system up and running it still fails to work, guess I will be using membrane keys for a long time.
