No Increase in Speed after OC

Hey all. This is my first time overclocking so i need some help. I have an athlon 64 x2 4000+. it has a bus speed of 200mhz and a multiplier of 10.5 , with tyhge total speed as 2109.66 mhz. in the bios i increase the bus speed to 240 mhz, but i didnt get any performance. and my system still says its at 2.1. i clocked it to 300 mhz, but still, didnt get any changhe. i think its the sm bus controller cause the drivers aint installed for that, or perhaps the psu , cause im having these weird blaackouts, like for a sec, when im opening a pprogram needing admin privs. and the most weird ones are when someone ons the light or offs it? i recently shifted my house and i think its a voltage problem? any suggestions are appreciiated

and i wanted to add that, there is no change in anything. nothing at all, like no change in cpuz, nor the system tab in windows. only the ht link wich i got to 1000

Firstly, I am sorry to say this but just don't overclock. You clearly have no idea what you are doing. Go and read around the subject and do some research into your components.

If you ramp the Bus speed too violently, the BIOS will likely just reset it to default values or in some cases, just ignore the altered value. Also as you increase the bus speed the CPU will want more voltage supplied to it to compensate. Too low a voltage will result in the BIOS resetting or general system in-stability. Too high a voltage could result in the chip burning out (which is non-recoverable).

cause im having these weird blaackouts, like for a sec, when im opening a pprogram needing admin privs.

Sounds like a number of possibilities here. Your either running too much for the processor to handle, running out of available memory or your GPU drivers are not working correctly.

and the most weird ones are when someone ons the light or offs it?

What?

only the ht link wich i got to 1000

That is default for those Athlons.

hey thanks for replying. my cpu is clocked at 1.2v i think. no i dont know what im doing, cause tomorrow im getting a new chip, so just wanted to see how much is this chip willing to go? i cant edit the voltage in the bios. no my gpu drivers are working ok, cause i tried a couple of games and they work just fine, like now i have windows xp, but i used vista and 8, and the graphic performane in those 2 are same as now. and anyway i cud juist dont make the bios ignore the value? and btw i mean when the liights are turned on i mean that the actual lights are turned on in the room. like a tubelight or something, or anything electrical. i really do think its low on voltage cause in my house i a couple of lights dont work right and stuff.

and btw when i access my bios i dont see he values changed.

That means the values aren't being saved upon exit or the chip is just not willing to be altered in anyway. (Or even the CMOS battery on the board could be dead. Is the system maintaining time and date within the BIOS?)

yes the system is maintaing the time and date.

and no i dont mean the values not changing. i mean i clocked it at 300 mhz, pressed f10 and saved it, and quit. then i rebooted nad saw it was still at 300 mhz. i dont mea the valuse not changing when i do, i mean that they do not change as u were saying that they might not e saved ontop the memory.

Okay calm down a bit and proof-read before you post. Now... you aren't really narrowing down the issue very much. Did your screen mess up like is has been before you OC'ed also what gpu do you have?

You might want to consider providing your entire system information. It could be the motherboard that cannot save values once changed, or something else. I mean, if you want to overclock, read up on the CPU for any interesting information. I would be very careful overclocking, even if you're buying a whole new system to replace that, you could make some good use for that old PC (HTPC, router, etc).
Read a guide from overclock.net or somewhere similar, just don't rush into things or you risk breaking everything rather than making things better.
BTW, consider heat. You might fry your CPU by careless voltage adjustments and inadequate cooling. Overclocking is a step-by-step process and does not reward shortcuts.

Well my mobo is the nettle2, really old, and thing is I put some new bios cause the best cpu I cud put in there was the 5600. Moded bios. Heres the link. Now what I'm getting is a phenom ii x2 560 be for this mobo. My temps are pretty good for my processor, to about 50'c max. I just really wanted to try this crazy oc experiment.

My specs are -
Athlon 64 x2 4000+
Hp mobo(I seriously have trouble remembering the name but it's in the link top)
Ddr2 2.5 gb ram
Hd 5450 1 gb
235 w psu
160 gb hard disk
Yeah that's it. No dvd.

Hey. Iv ordered the cpu from amazon. Il let u guys know howd the upgrade went. A bit off topic but only reason I tried upgrading this bs computer was cause I had some sentimental value toward it. First computer I ever had, back in 2008. I was 8 years. So, just telling those who will ask why u upgrading this bs computer. And I need it as a desk pc for playing wow, warcraft 3 and some other best classics. So just give me a few suggestions about what to do about the no oc problem and thanks for replying.

Yand yes, my screen has been messing up ever since I shifted. Man, believe me or not, I tried offing and onning the room lights, and 3 of 10 times, my screen blacked out.

Maybe just a crap PSU?

Also the stock mobo. Its not prepared for overclocking at alllllllll.

Hey. Well I tried getting the amazon package today but it seems the guy will deliver tomorrow. So will take another day for my upgrade. Yeah chris exactly what I'm thinking. A crap psu. And maybe the mobo is not ready for overclocking. Anything I cud do about that?

Overclocking by increasing the bus speed by 50%?? No...

I'm sure others have already said it, but I'll re-iterate. You cannot increase the bus speed by that much and expect your system to run it. PLUS overclocking is more than just turning up one thing and resetting. Just don't do it until you understand it a bit more. Chances are if you're ruining this build, your next build wont be so pretty either.

I am not gona be doing a build anytime soon. I know that overclocking is dangerous, but for me it's simply not cause in this thing, Iv got nothing to lose. I just wana start getting into this overclocking thing for some experience. And Iv got a shut down feature set at 65 ' c. What cud possibly go wrong?
