Nikon D500?

Is Nikon preparing to launch a new DSLR? The photo shows what seems to be a rather small and perhaps entry-level DSLR. April 14th is the suspected date for the release of what is most likely the D500. I will update you on the release of this new camera when I get more information.

What exactly is an SLR and what is the difference between it and a fucking point and shoot?

SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex. (a film camera).

A camera with removeable/replaceable lenses.

ARE YOU SERIOUS XEZMER!!??

DSLR's are way above a point and shoot.. There is no comparison unless you are a retard and buy the 500-1000$ point and shoots but still DSLR's are amazing cameras they are professional cameras that can have any lense you buy.. For instance in football the photogaphers on the sidelines have the huge white lenses the size of a small child.. I can put that lense on my camera because its a canon DSLR which then would make my 600$ camera an amazing camera to shoot with.. :)

The difference depends on what you want from your photography. SLR's tend to have lenses that can be changed, normal digital cameras have a fixed lens where the user is limited to what he/she can shoot. For example nature photography or sports would be better with a 300mm or greater lenses, normal cameras wouldn't have this option. SLR's also have greater functionality giving the user more experimental control, such as aperture, shutter speed, RAW shooting etc. So what camera you buy depends on how far you think you might want to get into photography, that's why i bought an SLR, i wanted total control over my hobby
