I bought a Nikon D3300 with this lens 3 months ago. It worked fine, but some strange things began to happen this week. When i completely retract the lens to 18mm, the aperture goes only to 4.5 instead of 3.5. If I zoom in only for a mm, the aperture lowers to 3.5. Should I take the lens back to the store and ask for a warranty repair or replacement?
Huh, that's weird... It's not your aperture setting forcing it to stay at 4.5, is it? My guess is to take it back to the store, along with the camera, so that you can reproduce the error.

Yeah, that doesn't sound like it should be. The store will have cameras on display, so you can try it out on another body. If it does that only with your body just let them deal with it.

if this is a new behavior for the lense send it in to Nikon to get fixed, now if you are just noticing this but it has acutely always been the case then dont worry about it. Some zoom lenses to work right do end up chewing up a little bit of extra light at the widest point,
