NHS hit by massive ransomware attack, many hospitals and clinics offline

Oopsie.

Having worked in NHS IT, I really am not surprised by this. I am actually surprised it took this long for a nationwide breach! Quite a large chunk of hospitals and doctors practices are still using Windows XP. Some of the systems are even running MS-DOS applications to manage patient data.

It appears that the ransomware is spreading trust to trust, possibly via email. What happens when you don't give your employees adequate IT training.
