Anyone with experience can help greatly. Should I be wary or do you think I'm good to go?
I bought an Asus Sabertooth X79 refurbished MOBO from Amazon, got it for around $180, and together with my I7 4930k it is still rocking. Been around 2 years since I got it.
It's always a little sketchy, so do proper diligence I'd say.
I have bought a number of refurb stuff from newegg, its great.
They even usually have 90 day warranties which isn't the 6mo to a year of normal but still more than enough usually.
Usually if something is wrong you'll find it right away by just inspecting the mobo or by putting a whole rig using it... I've bough refurbished stuff from the closest thing we have to Newegg here in Spain and no issues.
Newegg is a pretty solid company. I've purchased a few refurb items with no probems. I just got a refurb 1000W EVGA G2 PSU from them and it's in mint condition. It must have just been an open box thing.
Personally I'm always leery of refurb anything. There's a reason why it was sent back to the manufacturer. That doesn't mean everything refurb is crap, but it's worth the piece of mind for me to take that part out of the equation is something fails. Of course we won't get into brand new parts being DOA...
