Newb question

Hi everyone,

I'm in linux mint atm,

when i remove opera, [sudo apt remove opera], reboot my pc, install again [sudo apt-get install opera], and open opera again it still has the same tabs i had before te uninstall. so i doesn't remove everything, right? how to completly remove applications and items?

i want to use dmenu, so i typed in the terminal [sudo apt-get install dmenu] and it did somethings but i dont know how to open and use it. and how to download and install applications for example drivers in archlinux? i believe it's pacman in arch but not sure. i think it's only possible to install applications with [sudo apt-get instal (application name)] when the application is in the package download store stuff in mint. don't know how they call it. is that right? ifso how to download and install applications who arren't in the package download stuff.

I can answer your first question, sudo apt-get remove only uninstalls software but leaves configuration files behind, if you want to also remove configuration files use sudo apt-get purge packagename

will [sudo apt-get purge opera] remove opera and the configuration files or just only the configuration files.

so what to do if i want to delete kde and install xfce?

sudo apt-get remove removes everything on a system level. What remains are your preferences as a user, which are in a hidden directory in your home folder. Go to file manager, view hidden files, and you'll see the folders of applications with user preferences.

It does remove every bit of program software though, it's not like Windows.

thanx, quick question, when using windows in kvm, will it effect linux with a virus? i don't know if the virus will stay in kvm or windows or will it go into linux? and i'm planning to use bspwm with archlinux. i'm currently on 1 monitor but will be on 2 monitors soon. can I add that later or do i need to install bspwm again.

What happens in a virtual machine stays in a virtual machine. Also, things that affect Windows don't affect Linux.

thanx!

can someone give me a link to a working archlinux iso? the one is used are the latest which is april 2014 but there is a problem with burning the disk. it's not the disk and not the dvd burner.

If there is an issue there will be an update within 24 hours when it gets reported. It is very likely the problem is between the chair and the keyboard ... did you try other ISO burners?
