So imagine this: You start off as a U.S. Army grunt, kicking doors and blowing shit up. The game is super aggressive, gives you the option to dismember people, destroy houses, set people on fire, the whole nine yards, all with a high tech gore system.
Then you get separated from your squad. You're alone in some god-forsaken country with nothing but your rifle and basic equipment. You'll quickly realize that you'll be dead by morning unless you go on the down low, so you have the option to dump your gear and guns to disguise yourself. The game becomes stealth action, always with the option to bust out and assault but with the futile reality of that strategy bearing down at all times.
The game sets you free in a city full of war torn civilians who are just trying to survive. The only goal is to get back to your team somehow, but all along the way you see horrifying casualties of war. Child suicide bombers, teenage militants, broken families, high tech gore, horrifying audio. Everything you don't want to see or feel in a game, brought front and center.
Eventually you find your way back to your team and everything is back to normal. You've got your gear and guns and buddies and they expect you to go right back to shooting all of the same people you were earlier.
The entire duration of the game wouldn't force you to kill people, you could always have to the option to avoid conflict, but I'd be very curious to see how differently people play the beginning and the end of the game.
What do you think?
