Cpu: Amd Phenom II Black 955
this is my first build and im new to PC gaming. im using the 500-550 dollar build video from logan. Its low budget but i was wondering if i need a heat sync? Or a Cpu fan? Are they the same thing? Which one is recomended? Is cooling a huge concern with a small build such as this one?
I want this build to not be a wasit of money.
Any support, advice, and recomendations would go a long way, thanks a ton
If you are going to be overclocking then yes a Heat sink is recommended. A fan usually comes with the heat sink. If you are just going to be playing games then no, having an aftermarket heat sink is not required but most people will recommend that you get one.
Do you already own the Phenom?
Have no fear Tek Syndicate is here, an after market cooler is always reccomended. You can use the stock fan but your system will run fairly hot, and good aftermarket CPU fans/ heat sinks are fairly cheap.
If you're running on stock clocks, which this being your first build, your system shouldn't run hot. Under load the temps will go up a bit, but it's nothing your stock cooler can't handle. As a rule of thumb, don't overclock on a stock cooler, it usually doesn't end well. If you are interested, coolers by Cooler Master, Zalman, Noctua and Corsair are all high quality. You also need good thermal compound. In my experience, Arctic makes the best. Logan has a video about proper thermal compound application if you are confused. Lastely, avoid the CM V8 and V10 coolers. They aren't bad by any means but their sheer size makes them a hassel. Just read reviews that others write and shop smart.
