New to Python

I have just started my A-Level courses at school and am doing computing (coding). I am being taught python and what to know some tips and tricks as my teacher has not used python before so is only about 1 or 2 lessons ahead of me. Also, any ideas for some simple programs would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Nathan

Python is a great language: simple, cross-platform. I am learning Python, too. I got a lot of information from http://inventwithpython.com/chapters/ and when you advance further and look into graphics programming, there is a Python library called Pygame, which handles sound and graphics. Here is the book for that: http://inventwithpython.com/pygame/chapters/

Another book that is popular (even though I remember the author not working on it anymore) is http://www.diveintopython.net/

Hope it helps! Also, my first post!

I highly recommend this online class: https://developers.google.com/edu/python/ There are some video links to the lecture and some exercises (Practise makes perfect)

I suggest having a look at the Tkinter module, it's a quick easy way to make a graphical user interface (GUI).

Here is some code to try running I think it will work in python 3 aswell as 2:

try:

    import tkinter as tk

except ImportError:

    import Tkinter as tk

root = tk.Tk()

root.title("Welcome to Python")

root.geometry("250x100")

label = tk.Label(root, text="Hello Nathan")

label.grid(column=0, row=0)

root.rowconfigure(0, weight="1")

root.columnconfigure(0, weight="1")

root.mainloop()

Read the sticky and ask questions there. It will help even more than creating a thread where you get slow or no assistance.

This subject (not the type of language in particular) is becoming very common and people are NOT reading the sticky.
