New to PC Gamming

I watch your YouTube videos regularly mainly for the tec news and hardware.  I have never liked games and never could understand what people saw in them.  It was mainly because I have always been around consoles and have never tried a PC game.  But you kept mentioning how PC gamming was so much greater and I had to give gamming another try.  So i downloaded Saurbrauten on my Linux Mint laptop and now I'm hooked.  I guess now I will have to go out and get a gamming mouse. This little travel mouse just won't cut it.

For now I want to stay with my Linux laptop for gamming.  I need my Windows laptop for business and my main PC is too cluttered with audio/video editing to add games.  Maybe I'll build a PC just for gamming.

Don't build a PC for gamming, build one for Gaming.  Sorry, OCDs just going crazy here.

Yeah, but I'd recommend building a PC for gaming rather than, say, buying an Alienware computer pre-built.  You could even use one of the Teksyndicate build guides for a parts list that conforms to a certain budget.  They've also got a video guide on how to put each part together if you need it.  Welcome to PC gaming, my friend!  It's great to see yet another person join the world of PC.

Hey, just throwing it out there, don't use a Mac to game on; it's far too enclosed, and you're not going to have good framerates at all because of Apple's GPU selection.  They're good for office or school work, but just not good for average gaming.

Hello, Welcome to the World of PC Gaming!

I would definitely recommended building a PC for gaming;

However, there are many questions that you need to ask yourself before diving into PC gaming. You should check out some more games to determine if you are really into PC games. You don't want to build a PC or spend money if all you play is Saurbrauten. You should check out some free games. I'm playing Black Mesa right now and I'm loving it. You could also buy the next Humble Bundle for PC. It is a great deal, I payed $5 for at least $60 worth of games.

If you like more PC games and you really want to get into PC gaming, then you should build yourself the "gaming rig." I'm assuming you have some technical knowledge since it sounds that you built your video editing/rendering PC. The next question is about budget. This really depends on the games that you want to play. If your games aren't demanding, don't go all out on a PC. Really, a $500-$600 PC could play most games at medium to high.

Also the sad truth of PC gaming, Linux is great for many things, gaming isn't one of them. From my experience, Linux just doesn't have good enough drivers for gaming. Windows runs at least 50-75% better on almost all of the hardware that I have tried. I've also tried dirstros from Ubuntu to Arch Linux. I've configured using opensource and the NVIDIA/AMD driver. It just isn't as good as on Windows. You will also have to run games through WINE. (I just hate WINE; It is terrible IMO.)

However, there is hope for Linux. Follow AMD's Mantle for more details.

That about the most advice that I can give. Good Luck!

To pass on a bit of the help I've received here. Planetside 2, Blacklight: Retribution & Tribes: Ascend. That is if you like fps games/free games. Truthfully I am liking all of these free pc games more than 95% of the console games I've played. Also if you do get hooked in this world and need another friend Steam ID:Redii2Klutch . Wish you the best of luck.
