Hello everyone, as the title says I'm new the PC Gaming community. I would like some assistance in selecting the proper components to successfully construct a rig capable of playing games at resolution of 1080p or perhaps even further. At the moment all I have is the GPU. I have the Gigabyte GTX 780ti Ghz edition. What other components would be the most compatible for a gpu of this caliber. Thanks in advance for the help.
Budget? Peripherals? Location?
Without more information, it's rather difficult to assist you. Please fill out the form located in the following thread: https://teksyndicate.com/forum/build-pc/read-you-post-general-guidelines-build-pc/140909
I was considering a Gigabyte LGA 1150 Z97 ATX as my mobo. I saw Linus review it this morning.
Apologies for the lack of specifics, being that this is my first build and already have a GPU. My budget is 1500 dollars. Whether or not that is a sufficient amount to purchase all required components and/or monitor , im not sure.
Country / United States
OC / maybe in the future
Water cooling / if necessary
OS / windows
Games / FPS, RPG, MMORPG
I would like to play BF4, DAYZ , and future pc titles to come
Monitor / 1080p for starters, unless i am able to go higher with at least 120hz.
As far as screen type, I am not familiar with that
Unsure if it's 1500 with or without the GPU. I'm going to assume 1500 with gpu, os, and monitor.

At the moment all I have is the GPU
Is it $1500 total, or $1500 without the GPU?
Do you need any peripherals?(monitor, mouse, kb, speakers, headphones, etc)
Do you need to buy an operating system?
$1500 without the GPU. Yes, I require both the peripherals and the OS
Have you tried putting your own build together on PC Partpicker? Trying something first before asking for help is usually the way to go.
Here's what I recommend: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Qqf66h
If it's too far over budget, just drop the RAM down to a 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) kit. Regardless of the capacity, make sure you grab two sticks of RAM. Otherwise, your RAM will not run in dual channel mode.
The monitor I chose is a 144 Hz monitor. It'll go well with a GTX 780 Ti.
If you do not like certain parts I chose or prefer different peripherals or a particular version of Windows, feel free to play around with the list I linked above.
Looks solid.
That actually looks pretty good man and its within the budget. I keep hhearing that I should by an i7 but according to the majority an i5 will do just fine.
Thanks , I really appreciate it. For future reference, what if I decide that i would like to play at higher resolutions?
With feasibility in mind, that would require you to do one of two things:
Either grab two extra 1080p monitors later for a triple display setup or you can initially go with a higher resolution monitor. However, be aware that as you surpass 1080p, it becomes increasingly difficult to find monitors that are capable of refresh rates that exceed 60 Hz. I'm not sure, but I believe there are a handful of 1440p monitors that are capable of being overclocked to 120 Hz.
As for an i7 processor, it isn't necessary for what you want to do. Games benefit very little (if at all) from an i7 processor. However, if you plan on working heavily with video and audio (content creation, rendering, editing, 3D modeling, etc.), an i7 may be beneficial. You could also give the AMD FX 8350 a try if you want; however, since you mentioned that you planned on playing DayZ, an intel processor would be more appropriate. They typically perform much better in games that utilize the engine DayZ is based on.
i5 vs i7 benchmarks (take 'em with a grain of salt):
