New router?

   Hey all, my router is on it's last limbs, cutting out a lot, and the security is non-existant. I was was wondering what good alternatives there are out there? Unfortunately I don't have a spare computer to create my own, in true teksyndicate style.

   Also, I'm the only computer in my home other than my dad's infrequent laptop use, is there a way to avoid a router all together (in order to lower ping) and have laptops connect directly to my computer (with a wireless card)? I'm saying this because when I used to run on a cheap little BT modem a few years ago, I could achieve stupidly low ping (as low as 5 on some local servers).

yeah, actually, there is. you can get a wireless card, and they can usually be used as a wifi hotspot... or u can vitualbox pfsense to ur nic.

When my current enterprise class UTM router goes EOL, I'm going with Ubiquiti.
