New rendering/media/gaming PC

Hello community.

This is my first post and its also asking for help. I want to retire my old PC. A new one is wating and hope of your assessment.

First of all I want to work with it, so it should be kind of a workstation. But not so expensive ;)

This is what I  selected. I hope this is ok.

Price: something around 2300$

  • Intel Core i7-4930K, 6x 3.40GHz, boxed
  • ASUS P9X79 Pro
  • ASUS GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5 DirectCU II OC
  • Corsair Vengeance DIMM Kit 16GB
  • Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200 SATA 6Gb/s 3TB
  • Samsung SSD 840 Pro Series 128GB
  • Corsair Hydro Series H100i
  • be quiet! Straight Power E9-CM 580W

I am working with 3D progamms like 3Ds Max and Cinema 4D. 2D Photoshop, Indesign. Some CAD progamms like AutoCAD. Maybe Aftereffects...

Thanks in advance

All I can see wrong is that you may want to get an AMD 7970 instead of a GTX 770 if you're rendering and gaming. Also, you're psu should be fine, but just to be safe get about a 750 watt psu for better expansion in the future.

I kind a disagree with you because he is trying to use this PC as a workstation and doing more stuff with Photoshop, etc... he might wants to stay with nvidia card because of cuda cores. many of the application such as Photoshop will take advantage of cuda cores, so I would stay with GTX 770 or above! **BTW don't get me wrong as a "fanboy" or something you are correct that if wants to do more gaming kind of stuff then I would get 7970 or R9 280x**

The thing is you can find a 7970 for about $100 less than the GTX 770. Price to performance is better.

agree with you!!! 3D will definitely take advantage of CUDA Cores!

First, thank you all for yor recommendations,

yeah, the psu could be a little bit bigger. Done

Indeed the GraphicsCard is the big consern I have. I dont know with wich one I should go.

AMD or Nvidia. I just read a lot of the R9 290X (NDA is over). The 290X, a close to Titan card,,, but much, much cheaper. Or should I take the 780. Same price range but with cuda cores, which is good for 2D.

Hello everyone...

There is a lot, going on in world of graphiccards. After AMD announced

its top of top card, the 290X, the prices of the GTX 760,770, 780 droped about 100 bucks.

So I decided to go with the 780. But... I read earlier, that AMD is trying to speed up the drivers of 290 (without X) to compete with the 780.

Now... we have here two possible reactions...

1. Nvidia will drop the prices of 770 and the 780 more

or

2. Nvidia launches an OC 780 for the of 450$

Whatsoever, the customers are the winner.

I decided to wait a bit more. I still dont know which one to go.
