Just bought a new system and I am running into problems with memory and would like to hear your thoughts on it and see if you agree with me on what is the problem.
System specs:
PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1vol8
Memory: Kingston Beast 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Full (32/64-bit)
Issue:
I have problem running the memory with the XMP Profile #1: D3-2400 CL11-13-13 @1.65V
When using this and doing testing, Futuremark PC Benchmark or gaming e.g Crysis 3. System will freeze after a while (no BSOD) Memory kit has been exchanged to new one so memory "cannot" be faulty. So now I am expecting that either the motherboard is faulty or that it cannot work with the specified XMP profile built in, which would really surprise me because it should work, right?. I also see issues with some programs complaining that "system is not meeting requirements" which makes no sense with this setup. Also cannot get a simple web camera to work (audio ok, no video) with it when connected to USB ports in the back. Works flawlessly in my old system. These points is why I am suspecting that something is messed up with the motherboard. Updated all drivers, BIOS etc.
Any comments on this? Or should I just return the board for a new one?
run the ram at 1600 and do those things again I can pretty much gaurantee you won't see a difference in performance should you need to keep it at 1600.
Why do you need 32GB? Send it back and get a 2x4GB set of the 2400 MHz Kinsgston Beast RAM.
Also I'll iterate that you may want to try running only 2x8GB of what you have as most CPU Memory controllers made today cannot deal with total memory densities higher than 8GB when using higher than DDR3 2133 MHz.
i think its something with the mobo, but first try to runn the sticks at 1.5V at 1600/1866mhz. and look if you still got thease freezing problems, to dettermine, if its the ram xmp profile, or its something else. because if at 1600mhz or 1866mhz, the same problems occure, then it could probably something with the motherboard. if the problem does not occure at 1.5V 1600mhz or 1866mhz, then it would probably be a setting somewhere.
First off, I maybe not need 32GB but since I now bought it I would except it to work as it should. Have been running today at 2133Mhz without any problems. Haven't however tested with any longer periods in AIDA64 or similar. Tested on 2400 in the morning and it was up for 34 seconds before CPU started throttling and then system freeze. Could it simply be a cooling issue? I am running with default fan for the CPU. When only doing mem stress testing in AIDA64 it survived for 54 seconds. Haven't tested yet running only 2x8GB should do that too I guess..
