I want to build a pc to play the games that are out or will be comming up. I recently posted on this form for help in the 650 dollar range well i was wondering about the 800 to 900 dollar range? I was thinking of using an amd phenom II x4 965 black edition and 2 xfx 7770 cards but i would like to hear from those more experianced than I as this is my first build and I dont want any compatibility or playability issues. Thanks in advance for the help
i would go with an i5 and as much graphics as you can afford arfter getting everthing else, thats how i built my first and the one i helped my friend with.
also use a single card crossfire/sli are not as efficient in graphical performance and power compared to an equally priced single card
That's completely false. SLI with 2 mid range cards is almost always a better deal than buying a single card. The question is compatibility and support.
Here is what I am thinking its is over 900, but looking at it cutting down to 4gb of ram or decreasing hard drive size won't save that much. In regards to the CPU and GPU If you want to be playing games without upgrades for 3-4 years I wouldn't go below those.
Im assuming that setup would run a lot better than the amd processor and 7770s right?
also would i need a cpu cooler?
Yeah it would run better definitly in the CPU department, now the 7770 in crossfire perfore very close in performance to the 7870 I posted so it comes down to whatever is cheaper. What does everyone else think, I guess I have just always stuck with a single GPU.
Also how much do you play to overlcock. I am not big into CPU coolers so I don't know the best but from what I read the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ is great and cheap I think like 20 dollars right now.
Hey if you have anymore questions I know myself and a lot of other people have built our fair share of computers so ask away!
Well here's what I came up with:
MOBO: ASRock Extreme 4
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072
RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Redline 8GB 1600mhz 7-7-7-24
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226305
GPU: HIS Radeon HD 7870 Ghz Edition
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161411
SSD: Crucial M4 64GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148441
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840
PSU: Corsair CX600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028
Case: NZXT Gamma
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146061
Total: $946.92
If you want a better cpu cooler, I would recommend the Hyper 212+ or Cooler Master V6GT.
I would use the SSD as a cache for the hard drive. It will make all of your most used programs faster.
Thank you I greatly appreciate it I think I will do this build for my PC. If i added a second 7870 card later on would the power supply be able to handle it?
Not to be an ass, but the system I put together would actually be faster and it's about the same price. The SSD will speed up everything in your system, and the 2500K will overclock higher than the 3570K. You'll get better performance out of the i5 2500K if you overclock it.
No worries i saw yhour post right after i put my last one up. I liked that you had gotten a ssd in and ive been told about the OC potential of the 2500k So after i saw that im leaning towards the one you built
Lol, sorry. I'm just sick of watching people post Ivy Bridge CPUs for people who want to overclock.
Also, if you want to run more than one 7870 in the future, I would suggest a power supply that's a little more beefy. Something like this would work: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012
thats what evryone ive spoken to tells me about ivy bridge lol. Thanks Vortex also If it isnt too much trouble could you put together an beginner system or more of a budget say somewhere in the 600 to 750 range because Im thinking of building one for my sister also because she goes to college this year and i thought she might enjoy it. She wants to play starcraft 2 diablo 3 BF3 and maybe minecraft if I can swing it with parts. Not to worried about FPS as long as a stable 30 to 40 in game. She wont use the AA or multi sampling features but being able to turn the graphics up is always nice. Let me know what you think and thanks again for the help
I would normally recommend a 2500k but I have a hard time doing that when I know how cheap you can get them at microcenter for $170.
Also I didn't know he was planning on overlcocking so if looking at stock performance its better. You can't always assume that everyone who is building a custom PC wil overclock unless they state it, so I usually provide builds that way.

Well in that case, I would stick with the build that I put together for you, but I would take out the SSD and replace the hard drive, ram, and video card with these:
HDD: 500GB Caviar Blue
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769
RAM: 4GB G.Skill 1333mhz 7-7-7-21
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231439
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 6950
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102987
That should all come to about $747.93.
If she doesn't need a ton of storage space or can find a spare hard drive lying around the house, you could always get a small SSD instead of that Caviar Blue drive.
This might be up your alley,
Just FYI a few of those parts have $5-10 promo codes for them on Newegg so you could get it a tad cheaper if you use them, also if you already have an OS knock $100 off the price.
