New or Used?

In an attempt to save money, I'd like to buy a few components used. Are there any components that you would advise against purchasing used?

anything that can't be proved to be in working order

Power supply's, probably a bad idea...

Processors and Harddrives. Personally, I have bought power supplies, mobos, RAM, graphics cards and cases used, but you probably want your processor and harddrives to last the longest time.

Alright, noted. Thanks, guys.

this is out dated but i got a nvidia gtx 560 ti thats just chillin on my book shelf. but i dont think that would be an upgrade for you

I buy heaps of second hand parts to play with/mod/kill for fun. Mainly on local forums etc - OCAU here in oz where no one dares to do dodgy trades as the blacklist awaits. Ebay is always worth a look as well. Plus there seems to be a half decent trade thread here on the tek.

Be warned though a lot of warranties dont transfer to a new owner - only a select few of manufactures will do it - evga for example.
