New Nas project (not sure if will work)

Hi guys just have some plans for my server and was wondering whether some of these things are possible.

My current configuration is:
Xeon 1231 V3
H97 MSI gaming 3
16 GB ram
6 2tb WD red drives
LSI jbod raid card
NVIDIA Quadro nvs 300
Intel 256gb SSD
Corsair 60gb SSD

I currently have the HDD’s in a raidz2 in FreeNAS and FreeNAS is just running a windows 10 VM that updates my steam games and runs Plex.

My plan is if possible to actually install Unraid have the HDD in same configuration but passthrough a GPU and DVD drive(for handbrake) to the windows VM to rip DVDs and give the VM some more horse power.

I was also thinking of setting up a raidz2 of 250gb SSD for super fast storage as they are getting ridiculously cheap now. I recently saw some SSDs on AliExpress for 40$ that are just crucial MX adds with different shells.

My question is if it is possible with my current hardware and I also need to backup my data on my current shares 1.3 TB currently.

If this is not possible with my current hardware would it be possible with one of these motherboards and a cheap ivy or Sandy bridge 8 core xeon.

I’ve never used unraid, but I’m pretty sure it uses BTRFS and not ZFS, so no zraid.

No idea whether I’d be able to use passthrough on h97 with Unraid then?

Would there be any drawbacks to BTRFS?

I don’t know.

Short answer is no but you’d have to wipe you ZFS storage and reformat. Do you have a backup handy?

No I thought in my original post that I had asked for a good way to back up. I was debating on temporarily use a bunch of 750gb WD blacks i have in my main PC. But it’s my new dual xeon build which isn’t quite stable yet. Do you have any suggestions?

Any backup with redundancy should be fine, so your black drives would be good if they’re either in some sort of raid config that can tolerate a failure or you back everything up twice.

Beyond that, the specifics aren’t too important.

Sounds like a plan, hopefully fix the freezing issue my new setup is having sometomes when it boots into windows(might just switch to Linux permanentlly with the new steam news). Will also need to wait till I can get another LSI card from eBay to flash to JBOD since my boards out of SATA ports
