New motherboard and RAM

I plan on buying a new mobo later this month, along with a new GPU and RAM.

I've decided to buy a GTS 250, since it's only $130.

was thinking about buying some DDR2 1066 Dominator RAM, but it's kind of expensive. Is dominator RAM really worth the extra over some ohter kind of RAM. Right now my RAM doesn't even have heat spreaders.

I'm also undecided about these two motherboards:

I'm on a budget, and all I want is to have a stable motherboard with my quad at 3GHz.

I would rather get the Gigabyte motherboard because it's cheaper, but which should I get?

lol paying for expensive ddr2 ram.. just get some nice cheap 1066 or 800mhz gskill ram. the better mobo to compare to the p5q pro is my gigabyte UD3P mobo, not that one. i don't know how well the p5q pro is, but i'm enjoying my gigabyte mobo. it's nice and stable with dual CMOS, just in case one of them is fucked up somehow :3

Asus and Gigabyte motherboards are both shit, Go DFI or EVGA or some shit actually solid.

when it comes to asus vs. gigabyte, i prefere gigabyte, although ive never had an asus board....they're both supposed to be very stable though, whichever way you go you shouldnt have problems

Alright thanks, you guys just saved me $85 :D

Only reason I say what I say is that both of the brands you chose I've had awful experiences with both of those companies.

well the only evga motherboards for lga 775 are nvidia chipsets and i am not a fan of nvidia chipsets

I myself a big fan of asus i have spent thousands of dollars on there shit and i like it.

i have never had a gigabyte board so i cannot help you there

To address your ram question forget the dominators unless you really want to OC your ram then be my guest i myself always go gskill best bang for buck ram out there and great company

hope i helped =)

neither of those, GTS 250, P45. u have an nivdia but going for intel chipset

>DFI

who?

>EVGA

i sold you a replacement 750i ftw for a reason. lol

Everyone has Issues with everything from everybody. And I hope the DFI thing was a troll.

>troll

i repeat, who?

lmao i was just browsing through the forums on my sisters laptop cause were on vacation and i didnt plan on logging in but when i saw someone talking shit about gigabyte and asus i just had to troll..

ok dumbass. Asus sucks? you obviously had some troubles with asus products? trouble with gigabyte products? or are you listening to one of the following DUMBASSES reviews?

-someone who doesn't know what their bios looks like

-someone who doesn't know how to oc

-someone who buys a 16a 12v "sli" power supply for his gtx280's and his quad core because the power supply calculator said 500w was enough?

-someone who buys a 9600GT or GSO for sli with their quad core?

-someone who listens to reviews that people get paid to do?

-someone who is building their first pc?

-someone who doesnt know how to check their cpu temps?

-someone who rma's functional items but appear unfunctional by their mistake?

-someone who doesn't use standoffs when installing their motherboard?

-someone who is a fanboy?

this fucking list could go on.

bottom line: mentally challenged people do not design and manufacter motherboards and computer hardware.

dumbass

Asus and Gigabyte are good. Those MB are great for the price. you dont want to do crossfire anyway so stay with the 250gts. dominator are good at overclocking because it come with a sweet fan. just get good ram for $45 like gskill or corsair unless you want your ram at 1100mhz+.

iight heres a better plan, u can get ethier that asus or gigabyte, personally i like asus, and it has better looks. Get a 4870 for 150. 4870 Pwns the GTS 250 anyday, and also no point in getting a p45 chipset board if u want GTS 250, need like a 750i.

Also the 9600GT upgraded to GTS 250 is not even a good upgrade its like a waste of 130.

i'd go for the ASUS, seriously. its never failed me before (an asus board, i have a P5QL-E) and it works very well. i hear GB has more overclocking features but is horrible for stability.

>horrible for stability

tell that to my UD3P :3

well from my experience, asus & msi are both great. i think asus' are pretty stable, got my 4200 x2+ to 2.77 Ghz. 35% OC on a Athlon X2 =D. I think DFI is the best at oc tho, dunno how long they last. Gigabyte has horrible taste in color.

the 9600GT seriously bottlenecks my my Q9400. The only reason I got this 9600 is because I got it as a gift.

I haven't found any 4870 for $150 yet.

The 4870 takes up to much power, my mom has complained to me about the power bill with my 9600. That won't stop me from upgrading, but I don't want to go to far.

Gigabyte is good maunfacturer Retarded SnowMan, so is ASus. Xezmer is right, retards can't manufacture PC hardware, but sometimes shit is faulty, such as with XFX. Their motherboards just plain suck. I don't know why anybody in their right mind would buy that stuff knowing 1/3rd of the time it was gonna fail (Well people did buy Xbox 360s, including me).

q6600, 4870, 6gb of ram, 6 fans (9 including the zerotherm, 4870 and psu) and i still use under 400w. you should be fine.

it actually wasn't 150 to begin with, more like 160ish. also that 4870 went back up in price anyway. it was a sapphire 4870 with a non-reference heatsink

Yes 400W isn't that much, but my mom is already complaining about the power bill even though I only use about 330W. The 55nm 8800 GTS G92/9800 GTX+/GTS 250 doesn't use as much power, and at only 1440x900, it's already all I need.

EDIT: And yes, the 4870 has actually gone up in price, which is bs.
