The Links with Friends Show will be moving in July to their own L1 channel.
This is still Level1Techs, we’re just separating the content types so they can take their own algorithm journeys. We also plan on posting more videos with the trio on that page.
Are the old vids coming across from the original channel or is this just for new ones after the switch? Because good luck and godspeed to whoevers shifting them if it’s the former
Doubt it. There’s no way to just transfer videos from one channel to the other (as far as I know anyway). They’d have to reupload everything and spamming a new channel with old uploads would ruin the algorithm.
I don’t know how YT’s algorithm works, but it knows I always want to see Links with Friends, and that their normal videos have a very low click through rate with me. Normally I get the same info, faster, from GN. It’s just bizarre to me that they punish the channel for having content that YT already knows who to serve it to. It’s almost like two separate teams wrote that algorithm and didn’t talk to each other. I’m not against L1 making another channel, I’m already subbed. Rather…youtube just makes 0 sense as a company. Which, honestly, I think is intentional. Censorship, propaganda, etc.
This does seem like a good idea, there are many who watch only news or only non-news, but,
really does make it sound like a corporwellian doublespeak initiative—which makes it quite the missed oppurtunity to not start it today as the return of Level2News.
If you look at the comments on YouTube when they were asking for suggestions there were a lot of people that ONLY subscribed for Links With Friends and not the other content. I’m on board for both, but I understand just wanting the news stories and commentary.
For me it’s the other way around. I like their personalities, but I don’t have time to watch the news/links videos. But I enjoy Wendell’s perspective when it comes to reviews and Linux content.
This split will help both kinds of content with higher click-through and watch rates.
