New high end Ac router choice help

So my Asus Ac68u is having problems. The signal drops from 5/5 bars to 2/5 bars on my computer that is connected via a Intel AC 7260 chip. This causes my ping in game to go from 50 to 200 for a couple seconds then drop back to 50 if it doesn't straight disconnect me. I don't believe this can be the fault of my Comcast modem but I could be wrong on this. If it was only the ping then maybe but the signal dropping like this leads me to conclude it is the routers fault. So, is there any way to fix this? And if there is not any way, whats a good sub $250 router with dual band AC minimum? Should I look for enterprise grade stuff or stick to consumer offerings? I was thinking maybe the netgear night hawk.

Update- Ok so my Asus is definitely failing fast. Even web browsing on it is becoming painful at times. So Looks like I'm in the market for a new router fast. I need it to be able to support 2 people playing games at once and have a rj45 available for a power line adapter for a internet connected business phone. I was thinking about either the Netgear night hawk, linksys wrt1900ac or a ubiquiti UAP-AC. I need at least a 2x2 5ghz and a 2.4ghz simultaneously.

Just saw that e-mail and that router does look good but I think I may need something capable of more heavy duty clients.

Since it was an asus router that just died after 6 months and my asus pcie ac wireless card's 5ghz capabilities straight died as well a month ago, I think I'll stay away from their wireless solutions for a while...

Yeah the router is getting returned and the wifi card is probably out of warranty at this point. The clients would be 2 gamers, one person vpning into work on occasion (they work on high power laptops so work happens from anywhere via vpns) and then one person streaming video/podcasts almost 24/7 since he never turns his comp off and leaves them on. Because of the location of the router none of these can be hard wired sadly ;-; that's why I think I need a higher end router. Also one that won't need to be replaced for as long as possible as buying one even every 2 years as the pattern was before this one was painful

I have a nigh hawk and it is awesome. No problems, last router I'll ever need. Some of the reviews I've read said some people are getting mixed results, I have had no issues however. I don't have heavy traffic, but i do a LOT of intranet streaming of 1080p content. Sometimes from multiples computers at the same time to different displays. And never have I once noticed a performance issue.

Thanks for the response! That's good to hear as I wasn't wanting to spend for a Ubiquiti so I'll keep that in mind.

I have the UAP-AC, it's the best access point I've ever used. I haven't had any problems with reliability.

I have that same router and it's been great, sounds like you just got a bad one.  I'd just request an RMA on it.  "Two gamers" is hardly a heavy load; I doubt you'd need to go for industrial hardware, unless you just want to do it for fun in which case I totally understand ;)

Haha well I wasn't counting gamers as heavy load in terms of the games considering lots of games like battlefield have network requirements of 512kb up and down but more of the aspect of downloading games and game patches along with music streaming/youtube consumption. Its not super heavy by any means but it is all wireless and simultaneous so there definitely is a load. Enough to kill this higher end Asus lol. Unfortunately I don't have the time to wait for slow, crappy Asus support so its getting returned to bestbuy (hopefully). Just ordered a new netgear nighthawk x4 from Amazon so hopefully that does the job.

That's the plan although if you've heard Asus RMA stories then you'd know why there might be problems with that.
