Hi,
my new gaming rig is ready - the only thing I need is a new gpu...
My system:
AMD FX-8350
Crosshair V Formula-z 990FX
2x8 GB G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3-1600
Samsung SSD 840 500GB
Corsair H100i
Corsair GS 800W "2013 Edition"
Now I tend to give Nvidia the favour again, but one thing that worries me is the fact, that the 670/680 cards do not fully support DirectX 11.1, as I'm using Win8. Should I worry about that, or is that something that can be overlooked.
My top cards would either be the GTX 670/GTX 680 FTW Signature 2 from EVGA or the GTX 670 DCII from Asus. There also is a GTX 680 DCII available from Asus with 4 GB GDDR5 Ram.
I mostly play egoshooters, like Crysis 3, Far Cry 3 or Bioshock Infinite, so I'd like to play with max. details. An AMD 7970 would be an option too, but I'd like to favor the Nvidia cards, because I like the driver structure more and I have read and heard from many people that have driver issues with their AMD Radeon's. I also like to have Cuda and PhysX on board.
So, what do you think about my plans?
i also favor nvidia, i just got the msi gtx 680 lightning and it smashes anything you throw at it, DirectX 11.1 is nothing grate from what i hear, i think that nvidia are going to put it in the next update any way, in my opinion go 680 lightning it might be overkill but it is better over then under right?
EVGA GTX680
Sapphire HD7970 3GB Vapor X Edition.
its just a choice, depending a bit on wich games you play, some games like Nvidia cards more other do better job on Radeon cards.
I personaly would go for the 7970, instead of the GTX680, cause its most of the times cheaper, and as far as i heard it mostly performs better in most games.
But if there is a good reason for you to have Cuda cores and physX,(rendering editing adobe software) then just go with Nvidia.both are good choices.
Grtz Angel ☺
Ok, another question: AMD FX-8350/Nvidia Titan combo - potential bottleneck scenario? Just one GPU, no SLI.
You don't need a titan, you really don't.
if the guy want's a titan and can afford one.... then let him get one. single gpu performance all the way, now unless amd and nvidia start manufacturing gpu's on a smaller die than 28NM then the titan will remain the single most powerful single chip gpu on the market in all honesty i would take that over a 690 or a 7990 any day of the week. also the larger frame buffer from the 6gb memory bank will help with multi monitor and higher- res gammong. unlike the 690 or 7990 with 2gb and 3gb per gpu core, which is also usable memory. just a thought that's all
OR JUST WAIT A MONTH TO GET A 700 SERIES CARD LIKE ANY OTHER NORMAL PERSON
Yeah, right... Like any other normal person... In case you missed the essential message: my gaming rig IS ready right now, there is no other card to fool around, so I think it's natural that the card has to be bought NOW and not in a month.
The GTX 700 Series would be great, that's for sure, but because of an instant need of a GPU, a little bit out of my time frame. GTX 700 will be a topic next year.
the GTX680 titan wil probably not be bottlenecked by the FX8350 i personaly see no reason for a bottleneck.
I'd personally wait for the GTX 700 series cards. The GTX 780 will be a beast. I wonder if there'll be a GTX 780Ti...
I agree with MisteryAngel. You could pick yourself up a Sapphire HD 7970 GHz edition for around £350/$500 on amazon which comes with a steam dowload code for bioshock infinate, farcry 3 blood dragon and crysis 3 the games you listed you would like to play. The vapour x cooling unit creats a margin for an overclock if you wish, not to mention the PowerTune Dynamic Boost which give the card a kick from 1000MHz to 1050Mhz.
You know you want to.
