New GPU soon, possibly a 6850?

Hey guys i was looking at replacing my old old 4850 lol. I was looking at getting the XfX 6850

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150515

I can't spend more than 185$ on it (if there is one better for less let me know!) and i need to make the decision by next Monday. Give me some recommendation please.

Go for a 5850 instead. They're about 10-15 fps faster in most games and about the same price.

Newegg also has an open box overclocked ASUS version for about $165 too.

well r u going to buy another one down the road? if so the 6850 because it scales better but if not 5850!(:

u know... its funny, im actually looking at getting a 5970 soon (if my wallet allows it) :p

Let's have a guess what this golf club is. firstly, it is golf driver from TaylorMade, then it has a large head and deep clubface. and his head is

constructed with the aid of TaylorMade's Ultra-Thin Wall (UTW) technology, which allows for clubhead walls measuring as thin as 0.6 millimeters, with the

saved weight redistributed to make both MWT and the low-and-deep CG possible.

What's more, it combines the flight control technology which allows you to change the face angle, loft and lie angle with the simple twist of a wrench with

TaylorMade's famous movable weight technology, his clubhead features three weight ports and comes equipped with one 16-gram weights as standard.

So have you got which driver it is ? Smart as you, you may have already known it is TaylorMade R9 driver.

The other golf club that I recommend :

6870 for $174

you might want to browse tiger direct if you have not already looked there, I've noticed that they sometimes have better deals on GPUs than newegg

Here's another 5850 if you prefer XFX:

You could always get a nice 6870 too though. They perform almost the same as a 5870.

Don't get a 5970! It lags behind in newer games.

6950 crossfire would be so much better

I am not looking tobuy another one down the road although it may happen if im struggling with Battlefield 3 lol.

I'm basically looking one that runs fast, has a price of 185$ or below, and looks sick as hell lol

I'm not a huge overclocker, i never run my parts at 100% because we can't afford the energy bill here so just something tht runs fast right when you plug it in.

BTW i have the Storm Scout case so nothing like 13 inches haha i doubt there are any at this price but you never know

5970 shouldnt lag in any games even with crossfire disabled.

but srsly ztrain from someone who owns a dual core card I promise u there nothing but trouble. They run hot as hell, the fans sound like a jet taking off,and the drivers suck cuz AMD dosnt bother to update them since no one buys those cards, and plus its usually cheaper to just buy 2 cards anyways

When did he ever say he was even considering getting a dual gpu card?

Your best bet is going to be a 6870. Tiger Direct has a few that are cheaper than normal for some reason.

was talking to ztrain, he said he wanted a 5970

oh ok. Yeah, I probably wouldn't get a 5970 either. They're still too expensive. You could get a couple of 6970s for crossfire for about the same price.

Those are cheaper because they are refurbished, that and i'm not the biggest fan of visiontek

So are we saying i should get a 6850? 5850? 5970? i'm confused haha so many opinions

also any nvidia cards out there that are good in this price range?

Oh, you know what...it's not refurbished, but it's only $185 after a mail-in rebate. You'd have to pay $200 and then send in the rebate.

When it comes to the Nvidia side of things, there's always the GTX 460, but that's pretty much the same thing as a 6850. Don't worry about the 5970; they're still around $600 or more.

I'd say either go for one of the 6870s on tiger direct and get the mail in rebate, or get a 5850. The 6870s perform about the same as a 5870 and they have some newer technologies. If not that, the 5850 still performs better than the 6850 and GTX 460.

Anything besides the GTX 460 that's worth getting on the Nvidia side is going to be out of your price range.

So in summary:

1) Get a 6870 and mail in the rebate after you drop the original $200 on it.

2) If you don't want to do that then get a 5850.

reasons behind the 5970:

>800+ M hashes/sec

>400 usd

howerver i might just get an xfx 5870 for 200...

You could get two for crossfire. That'd be more powerful than a single 5970.

it would be the same... the 5970 is two 5870 cores n one card... 5870 = ~400 mhashes per second, the 5970 is ~800
