Hi,I am planning to build a new gaming/ editing rig, I have a list of componants that I think may do the job but I would love a second opinion as this will be my first build.
Mobo: MSI Z77 MPower
CPU: Intel i5 3570k
GPU: MSI HD7950 Twin Frozr AMD/ATI - 3GB
HDD: Seagate 2TB SATA III Performance HDD
SSD: Samsung 120GB 840 Series
Water Cooling: Corsair H100i Hydro CPU Cooler
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600MHz
Case: BitFenix Ghost
Power Suply: OCZ ZX Series 850W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply.
If you have any improvments or you can see any problems with the build please tell me =)
Very Solid setup, but you could save some money going with a slightly cheaper Motherboard and unless you plan to crossfire you dont need a PSU that large, maybe take the savings and buy a 3770k, also could get a 1TB HDD and 256GB SSD if you wanted, but that all depends on your storage needs.
If your editing using any adobe products your going to want a nvidia card because the CUDA speeds up rendering tenfold. For that price I would probablly fork out a little more for the 670, that being said the 660 Ti would give you almost just as good gaming performance for 100 bucks cheaper at the cost of less CUDA cores. If you still have a little breathing room I would reccomend picking up a i7 3770k, it would most definitely increase performance in everything by a whole load for only about $80 more. The other option would be to go down th AMD route (FX 8150 etc) due to the largr amount of cores but their less efficient. Other than those things, the build looks great.
would the CUPA of the 660 Ti be better than the MSI HD7950? also is the modular power supply worth it or should I get one without the modular feature??
if you use Adobe products, yes cuda will help, if not it wont, and modular makes life so much easier, and since cable management with it will probably be much better so will airflow in your case.
