Hey guys, I'm building a new Gaming PC using the FX 8350 and HD 7950. What I want to know is whether the 7950 is worth the extra cost compared to the 660ti or the 7870? I'm not looking for an extreme gaming PC with a gain of 5-10% extra FPS for a greater pricetag but something that would at least 'Future proof' myself for a reasonable amount of time. I've looked at the Gaming PC Builds and taken some good advice from them, however my budget is around £600 (So around $900) what would you guys recommend for that?
Here's my build so far.
Adata XPG Gaming v1.0 8GB, ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AMD 990FX, AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz' Aerocool GT Series 700w '80Plus Bronze', Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5
(I already have an SSD and case ready from my old build)
This is just it, the 7870 as far as I know performs really well but the cost/value to the 7950 I feel is a bit unjustified... At the moment at least.
So it's a bit hard to say "Well yeah the 7950 is better" because I know it is, but does it justify the extra £50 - £70 ontop... I guess I'll have to check out OC benchmarks a bit more and see where abouts it leads me.
I wouldn't mind a side by side review comparing the two both vanilla and OC'd ... I'll keep you posted!
whenn you get an oc version of the 7870 ghz edition, like club3D joker or the HiS-Radeon like i have.
then it peforms better then a stock 7950. i saw it in some benchmarks.
But ofc a 7950 is overclockable to.
but 70 pounds is much money, i live in holland, and could not afford me thattime a 7950, so i went to a 7870 GHZ edition, with oc capability´s, till now im happy with it :) eaven on stock speeds.
metro runs maxed out on DX9 settings, 87/100 fps, and i dont see any diffrens wenn putting it on dx11 options :) metro 2033 is a heavy game, but it playes well
@ MistryAngel - Yeah that's essentially what I was thinking too, either I get the 7950 in a sale or I go for the 7870 for those reasons.
@ anarmypig - I live in the UK (Hence the £600 =P) just put the $900 to be easier to any American's out there for comparison. So it would be £600, €700 or $900 =)
