So I got a new WD Black 1TB drive today, I then cleaned my PC and moved it to a case that would support 3 hard drives after a dusting.
I hooked up all the drives, there may have been an extra noise coming from the new drive, wasn't a pop because the PSU still works fine I hope. but it's reinstalling windows just fine for now. I selected my windows drive and nothing, unhooked everything and went to a Gparted Live USB, both of my old drives worked fine, but the new one keeps giving me an I/O error on dev/sda which signifies a dead drive on the software/firmware side of things right? I'll be trying to repair it with testdisk unless that messes with my RMA process with newegg.
But the question becomes what would cause the other 2 drives to suddenly have screwed up filesystems? All of the drives spin up fine and all that, just the new one is DoA I guess. Why would hooking up a new drive kill the other 2? PSU? Which would be fun as I'd rather not have to buy a new PSU atm.
PSU is a Rosewill Capstone 450W running a 5800K and 7850 GPU, been like 5 years now I think but it was fine with prime 95 running for a while.
All my data is backed up, so this is just a minor annoyance, hopefully I can repair the file system on my main storage drive.
Well thanks for any help.
